Default Mating Hooker Headers to Corsa Cat Back

Hope this is the right forum page for this. If not, my apologies.

Hello all!

I just purchased a set of Hooker 2151 HKR long tubes to throw on my 1995 Corvette convertible with the 6-speed. Currently the car has a Corsa cat back system that the previous owner installed and I’m wondering this…has anyone tried this combo before and could share some “instructions” on how to do it?

I’ve read header install isn’t too bad, watch for brake lines, 3” reducer to whatever mid-pipe size is and some flex tube. EGR/AIR delete and a good tune.

I understand the install requirements of the headers to the engine, what I’m really looking for is how someone connected these headers to their Corsa cat back, if it’s been done. I just don’t want to spend a whole lot of money chopping stuff up, and I REALLY don’t want to butcher that Corsa system. If push comes to shove, I’ll find a professional to take care of it, but I consider myself mechanically inclined and capable. But that’s given I have some guidelines to go off of.

If anyone has any good tuning tips too I’d appreciate it. I’ve never tuned a car before, but I’m interested in learning how with the proper software and cable.

As always, any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

I have done this on a 1996 with manual trans. I did have to have a muffler shop fabricate short pipe connectors to go from collectors to the Corsa. Finding a shop to do this could be challenging. I used coat hangar wire to get the correct "bends" and noted pipe sizes, and flares if any, at each end in a sketch. The coat hangar wire could be laid on top of required pipe to get the bends correct. I do not have cats on my set-up (off road). Then shop for clamps, not very easy but doable.

I actually started this install today funny enough. I agree with what you were saying there. I’ll end up taking it to a shop to get it all mated completely. For now I’m just going to use some flex pipe and reducers in the meantime.

Let me ask though because I ran into this today. How did you get the right side bolt in on cylinder 1? The instructions stated to reuse the old stud, which I planned on going without that alternator bracket, but even then I can’t get a header bolt in that hole to save my life!

I do not have a stud in that hole, I do have an alternator bracket connection on the first bolt at #3 cylinder, for the alternator bracket I used a bolt with a homemade spacer, piece of steel tube just big enough for bolt to go thru, about 1.25" long so bracket sits about where it did with cast iron manifold.

I recommend using 5/16" header bolts instead of 3/8", also (important) you need to get that bolt in #1 started BEFORE you get the headers up against the head. So header flange is away from head about 1/2" get that one started by hand, if not all of them and tighten each one a bit at a time until flange is up against head. Yes, it's a PITA wait till you get to the back bolt on #8
