Default New C4 owner!

Hello everyone,

Happy to be here. Last fall I purchased a 95 base C4 with 60k miles, super clean and smooth. My 94 z28 blew up in the summer and this is where I ended up!

Love the car although it isn't as mean and aggressive as my Camaro, which had some deletes and mods done from the previous owner, nothing crazy... That being said I miss a little bit of that grit that I was used to.

I will be pulling the C4 out for the spring and am getting excited. I don't have a lot of money to spend at the moment bur I am wondering what I should do with it. Set some goals, ya' know?

It is a 4-speed automatic which is fine. I will eventually get a rebuild on it because the stock 4L60E is garbage. So, where should I start? Are there some deletes that are cool in these cars? What gears should I swap to? Street legal headers and cam set up that won't kill the 4L60E?

Not looking for crazy HP gains, more so would like it to behave more aggressive like a muscle car. I would gladly give up some top speed to get more acceleration and torque-feel.

Give me your thoughts!

Thanks,
Scott V.

sort the gremlins u r about to discover first, service all your moving parts first, try an autocross or hpde trackday, then realize power level is fine. Unless u r already into hpde, in which disregard my advice on that front!

What he said, especially if the 4l60 is not behaving. Adding power will not help it and one of the things I have read, on here to get a more performance feel is a different torque converter. A performance converter isn't where I would usually recommend starting, but if you have the transmission gone through it seems the opportune time. I've read on here one of the old tricks (when these cars were new) was to use the same year service replacement torque converter for a S10 with the 4.3L V6. With the extra torque of the V8 it supposedly stalls around 2400 and I've read they have a higher hydraulic advantage (how much the torque is multiplied while the converter is below stall speed).

I would prefer something like a Circle D or a Yank built specifically for whatever combination. But I like the idea of the OE converter swap as those that write about it speak about it driving like a normal car, until you're on it, as opposed to my experience with some of the cheaper "performance" converters that do nothing till you get the revs up. I haven't tried it though so, something to check out and read up on.

As for other performance mods, exhaust is where I would start, as it should make whatever other power mods you choose more effective.

But as VikingTrad3r said, drive it hard first, then change. It would be a shame to spend a bunch only to find out all you wanted was a "tune."
