Whats a Frisbee??

It's a round plate on the front of your water pump pulley that weighs about 10 pounds. '88-'91 had them I think. Gm thought they needed it to dampen vibration from the AC compressor. The were wrong, take it off and your rpm's will spin up a little faster. Just make sure to use shorter bolts and lockwashers on the pulley to clear the pump castings.

"Whats a Frisbee??"
That's the F-19A Stealth Fighter; precursor to the F-117. Ducted turbofans; bell-shaped seen from above; seen from the front, the wingtips turn down at the tips, hence the name "Frisbee".
If those USAF buggerers hadn't stolen all the technology off the Roswell crash for the F-117, the Frisbee would be the Stealth Fighter of choice today...

Re: Whats a Frisbee?? (Siveck)
FYI - just recently I removed the frisbee from my '90 while replacing the serpentine belt. The factory bolts actually worked. I was careful to check that they cleared the water pump. They did. And, the frisbee doesn't weigh 10lbs. After I did that, I could not tell any difference whatsoever in the acceleration. I suppose a dyno might be able to detect the slightest bit of improved acceleration, but my rearend sure couldn't. Oh well.

Has anyone done a dyno after removing the frisbee. it would be great if there was a before and after for all the different mods so you can have an idea what to expect in real life from other forum members :seeya

The one from my 91 weighed in at 3.5 lbs. The earlier models, 86 to 89 I believe, weighed about 10 lbs. The earlier models with the heavier disks would see more gain.

Re: Whats a Frisbee?? (Steel Blue 91)
I removed the one on my '89 and it weighed in at 9.5 lbs. It may be in my head, but I felt it revved up quicker, worth the 30 minutes it took to do it. And 9.5 lbs. is a lot for my motor to spin if it doesn't need to.

Re: Whats a Frisbee?? (merplastic87)
merplastic87, the earlier frisbees were heavier as they were a solid disc of metal; the later ones had the rotating mass concentrated at the rim so they weighed less but had the same rotational inertia as the earlier units.
My time slips showed a consistent gain of 1mph after removal of the frisbee; that's about a 10hp gain.

That's correct, it was only used on '88-'91 L98s.
The "frisbee" was added to the L98 in '88 when the new A/C compressor and brackets were installed.
