I know its only a matter of time for my 28 yr old (I think) core to go south so its good to have these old threads pop up so I can tag it for later. Man this Forum is great!

I was under the impression that the newer cars were harder to
get out then the older ones. I have a 93 that I managed to clean
out (clogged), it seems to be filling up agein. Will it work on the
newer cars?

You don't pull the dash, instead, pull the passenger seat.

That was my 1st thought too...

OK, I see one post saying that works for 84-89 only. Then another post saying it works for 90.

I have a '92 and while I do have the FSM, I have not dug it out yet. Sometimes the experts on here have better info than even the manual.

But from some comments, I gather I'm in for a royal PITA?

Pull the hush panel, drop the ECM and the door control module.
Remove the support bar going from the door pillar to the dash.
Use a 7mm to take the cover off the heater box.
Pull the cover, unbolt the core, re-install.
Drink beer and laugh at webpage showing guys pulling dash.

I did the core in my '90 about year and half ago. But i did pull the dash apart. Seems like that was easier than pulling the seat, which is electric in my car. Not too bad of a job, just need to take yur time and be positive about it. And must have a FSM. On the other hand, i had to service the radio components as well, so it really helped with the CDM box. And i repaired and cleaned up much of the wiring.

Other crappy thing is having to pull carpet to clean up coolant mess all in the car. As the coolant leaking will also want to run under the carpet soaking the insulation material.

Also, on the firewall there is a piece of grey plastic with foam behind it that gets soaked. But you can't remove it to clean/wash the foam. So you just have to let it dry out and spray it down with Lisol and hope you kill any mildew that may be growing in the foam.

I replaced the heater core in my 1992 last year. I took the passenger seat out, along with the passenger side carpet to prevent coolant from spilling on the carpet. I definitely had to take the dash apart, not completely out, but apart. The job was not a huge PITA, but did take some time.
