Super-ram or Torque converter or rear differential?
I am trying to decide my next step, any suggestions? I have an Auto Trans with 2.72 gears and would like to go with a 3.23. I would also like to change the Torque converter (Vigilante) with 2800 stall. I have the Super-Ram ready to install; I’m just waiting to have my car painted next week. I just installed a High Rise Induction Hood 2 ¾ rise and a Stalker front bumper, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would go convertor first. Why not go 3:54? You really won't notice much going from a 2:72 to a 3:23. The convertor will compliment the super ram nicely when you install it

3.54 is too much for an L98. The 3.07 or 3.23 is better suited for the powerband. I'd got superram before the convertor. Why? The superram will make the power, the convertor will just let you take advantage of the power you have later. The convertor really should be the last thing that you buy after your combination is complete.

If you already have the SR, install it, then go for the TC. With your cam, its unlikely gears will make you much faster. We've found that going from a 3.07 to 3.54 with a SR makes very little difference in ETs. I would not go lower than 3.07 in a D44 carrier if i were you.

So 3:54's with a sticky tire will yield no ET gains over the 2:72 with a super ram setup on an L98. I'm from the "show me" state.....so show me. I think that's a load of BS.
I've always been told that if you're running 8's....don't take advice from someone running 9's

Super-ram or Torque converter or rear differential?
All three would benefit the car greatly. Why not build up to adding all three items at a slow pace? As for gearing..maybe for the pure drag racers...but the 3.45(even 3.54) is NOT overkill on an l98. I have a torque monster 383 L98 and the gears suit the car perfectly whether at the track or the street.

Go with the TC and have your shift points raised.
If that isn't enough punch do the gears; then you can run slicks on the street.

Thanks for the response guys; I think I will put the SR in first during spring break, then the TQ with a shift kit from B&M and if I still feel slow, I’ll go with gears. Just have to find out the right one, 3.09, 3.23 or 3.45?

A high torque motor shouldnt need alot of gear.

What I personally said was 3.54 is too much.

I guess it depends on how serious you are about performance. I take it seriously and where there is a tenth to be had, I'm gonna get it.
Just by looking over the parts listend in his sig, I would say that his car should pull nicely into the low 6k's...... therefore the 3:54's (or around there) certainly wouldn't do him any harm!

The 3.07 might be the best gear for a tuned port, even with a superram. plenty of real world examples showing no improvement when swapping a 3.07 for something larger...and i'm one of them

Did somebody say that? I don't think I saw anybody say that.
