Default replacing switch inside motor

86 coupe. I'm getting power through teh wiring and through my relays, but my motors aren't doing anything. They stay in the up position. If you manually crank them down and flip the lights on they go up, but sound like crap. I'm wondering if my switch inside the motor is bad(stuck in one position) or if the bushings are just jammed. If I can buy the switch I'll take the motors apart and change the bushings and the switches at the same time. Anyone done this?

If they feel "mushy" when manually cranking replace the bushings.

Otherwise check for mechanical binding.

You don't have bushings. Gears in an '86. I had one of mine apart a couple of months ago and found a loss of continuity between the rivet where contact is made and the piece of metal that the rivet is in. I think it had burned over time. I put a big blob of solder over it and it worked. For a month and a half anyway. I think I'm just going to send it out this time. As far as the gears go, it seems to me that if you can manually crank the headlight open, your gears are good since this is the only connection between the **** and the headlight door. Then again the grinding noise could mean they're bad. You'll have to crack them open to see.

I'll open them up as soon as I get the new gears in. I just don't want to take the motors apart any more than I have to. I'll replace the gears and take a look at the switch. I was hoping someone knew if I could get a new switch to throw in there too.
