:iagree: Get the service manual (helms). Why? because no one really wants to take the time to list each and every detailed step to do a job because you chose to not get one.

Personally, I have R&R'd my '96 A/C programmer, water pump, opti and hot cam installation in my own garage by using the manual and excellent advice from this forum. You need both.

Now, there are badly abused examples of every make vehicle out there on the highways. Sorry you got one with a problem or two from abuse and/or bad service procedures. Do you really want to start comparing vettes to mustangs? Shall I tell you a horror story or two about abused and/or badly serviced mustangs?

Lastly, there is no way in hades you will find a more friendly, helpful group of enthusiasts on a chat forum than right here on corvetteforum.

I can't help on the fan switch, but some of the others...

The dash has two things you should definately do to it. #1. Replaced the 4 halogen bulbs that light it. #2, re-do the solder connections. The grounds break easily. I don't have the link, but if you do a quick search out here, you'll find the guide some nice guy did to show you step by step how. This is what I did. Dash works great now.

The cold start sounds like just like the #9 injector, just like another poster put out.

You need to get that transmission to a shop to replace / repair that TV cable issue fast. If it is improperly adjusted (lots of posts out here to see how to do it, it's even in the Haynes manual) you'll burn up that tranny.

I don't have a helms / factory manual; never got around to getting one. I have a cheap Haynes, and combined with some internet searching, I have fixed a lot on my car. I don't expect the internet to be a freebee corvette repair specialist, I hope that I can find some answers instead.

In my short tenure, I've got good answers, smart-azz answers and no answers. A few "BUY A MANUAL", and lots of "GO SEARCH." - The best one was "Your problem is exactly why I didn't do it myself." That helped.

Sure, the bad ones ticked me off, but the overall information was worthwhile. (And in the searches, I found a lot of my answers) I can guarantee you this, you're not going to get any more help if you jump in, tell corvette lovers thier cars are crap and then ask for help in the same breath. I'll bet the same thing will happen in the rustang forum.

Best of luck with the problems.

My dad had a similar starting problem with his 87GTA, after replacing a bunch of poopie, it turned out to be the starter, no problems after that.
Vette's are nice, you get what you pay for, give it time and work out all the little kinks. If you want a cheap fast car, go for the fox, they are dirt cheap, take a beating and can be made fast as kiss.

Something of an expert here, did you wish to use 40% or 60 % TNT??

Would make a difference in the number of sticks to use.

Who do you think you are calling a "post horse offering no real advice". When I replied to Jetts4U2's post, I noticed that he was a new member and that his post had been sitting there for a long time with no replies. At least I had the decency to reply something. For his problems that he was having, the logical thing WAS to use the search feature to try and help him out of his problems as soon as possible. Or do you think spending a good part of the day on the forum back and forth would have been more productive?

Buy a sledge hammer and charge people $5 a swing while it's in the Autozone parking lot. You may make enough money for the flatbed to the scrapyard. While you're at the scrapyard you can pick out a new 5.0.

Sorry man, I couldn't resist.

Seriously, I've had to do plenty of maintenance to my Corvette, but it's also been very reliable. Your hard starting probelm could be leaking injectors or a bad fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. Does it smoke black? Try holding the pedal to the floor next time you start it when it's hot. It might crank for a while but it should start, mine did.

Good luck. :seeya

On my '84, the fan didn't work in the high position. There is a large guage power wire that goes into the relay, see if it has power going in, if not, there is a connector about a foot down that wire, this connector was corroded, and that's why mine wasn't working. Cleaned it up and it works great. Patiently fix one thing at a time, and enjoy the process!!

I mention the Search feature to many newbies asking advice.

There is a wealth of info to be had from this feature and many dont even know its available.

This fellow has so many problems that the 2 ideas that HE resented most (check the search feature, and buy a manual) are by far the two most appropriate responses to him.

That is one reason my previous post was made with some sarcasim.

I feel your pain, I really do. My '86 has been a real project and I've wanted to drive it off a cliff a few times. It just takes some time to get all the little things (and the big things) fixed.

I don't think the 5.0 Mustang is in the same league as the 'vette when it comes to handling and looks. It might be more reliable, or it might not, that I can't answer and really depends on the previous owner.

Hang in there! There's always help and moral support here.

Thanks all that gave me help, unfortunately, I have yet to have the stomach to pop the hood on the pig, lol. I borrowed a fuel pressure gauge off a guy at work and will check that. I am also swapping out the ignition module, and a good tune up that will burn water, 100,000 volts or so. I may need to change the injectors. Then yesterday, I had to move it out of the garage, and it ran fine in and out... It has a miss at low RPM's that suggest injectors or something, I put new plugs in it. But it has bunches of power when you stand on it. My original post showed the sorry time I was having with my new TOY, and all of you would of been feeling my pain, I haven't had to have a car towed to a shop EVER, I am a wrench and fix it myself, ALWAYS!! And this thing left me stranded twice, once due to the tire strips, and phil-da-rush, I crawled over them--because they were installed wrong, instead of being in the ground, they were flush, happened to 2 other cars. I like this car and will fix it, with y'alls help, and will probably turn it loose for a different car, vette or not. And Phil, from your post, I changed the relay because the fan didn't work in the high position, the new relay didn't cause the problem, DUH!!! I have owned a ton of cars in the past without owning a car like this, the un-christine car, it veers towards junk yards, lol. I have owned a 427 78 vette, all chrome, black, pretty, 2 red 78's, one stock, one 4.11's, a stock 36k mile 77 from my uncle out of his barn replete with dead mice and a cherry interior, a 66 chevelle malibu, 67 SS 396 Chevelle, 66 Pontiac 455 Tempest, 68 Firebird 326, 79 Porsche 924 (POS), 79 BMW 320I-$125 (in Germany), 79 Mercedes 280SL- $100-in germany. The Mercedes was bar far and away the highest quality car I have seen, the BMW's are built for speed and not in the same class as the Mercedes... My theory is have one of everything before you die... I currently have a 91 5.0 Mustang convertible with Weld Billets as my daily driver, the 86 Vette, 99 Lumina, 88 1/2 ton Chevy truck, 97 Plymouth Voyager, for the wife, a 98 Kawasaki Vulcan 750, 95 ZXI 900 Jetski and a 88 23' Donzi with a JE pistoned 350 that would be great in my vette...AND it is all payed for, don't have a note on anything, try that!!! It's all for sale, Thanks all for your help, it is appreciated.

The proper method for destroying a c4 with explosives is c4.

You can make your own.

It really does sound like based on your attitude and the condition of the car that this would indeed be your most satisfactory move

Please be sure and be safe when you do this and we'd appreciate a video..

Judging from the op's frustration, do you think he has waited fifteen years to make up a "blow up video" for you?

I understand your problem. I have had my 86 for about 4 or 5 years now. Its now in the paint shop. Man, you just gotta roll up your sleaves on these cars. Sometimes its no fun but always worth it in the end.
