Default LT1 spark plug wires -- 7mm vs 8mm

I think the original spark plug wires on my '92 LT1 are 7mm diameter.

Were all LT1/LT4 spark plug wires 7mm?

Has anyone replaced the spark plug wires with 8mm, and did you have any problems with the spark plug wire holders?

What is the best spiral core spark plug wire?

I really like my Taylor 8mm....The fit is great and I have run these wires in motorcycles and imports and picked up gains....... I also would recomend ngk plugs while you are there.....

Good luck

The Taylor 8s work well. I understand they are the biggest wire that fits in stock looms.

Looking at the CorvetteForum mall, it lists one wire set for the '92 to '96 LT1/LT4.
If I am not mistaken, the '92 to '95 LT1 takes a different ignition coil to Opti-Spark wire than the '96. Does this wire set come with both the early and late coil wire?

I went with MSD, but there are issues with the factory looms. NGK TR55IX plugs here.

I put the Moroso 8mm spirals in the factory loom, no problem.

Tom,

I just put on the Taylor 8mm's . I tried to get the looms to close on the wires but had real difficulty doing it. Very hard to pop 'em closed.. I didn't want to mash them so I dremeled the looms out as others had advised me to do. Worked out fine then.

Also went with NGK TR55ix iridium plugs. Car now runs better that it did when I bought it.

good luck

Same here...

I had MSD 8.5s in it once... They were a very tight fit but you can do it with patience... One thing that might make getting larger wires into the looms easier and without damage is a little liquid dish soap on the looms... The wires will slip in very easily and you won't damage the insulation...

I just put in Taylor 8mm and had problems getting the stock looms to close. I am going to get new ones. What a pain to change wires, huh? I did notice a gain in acceleration.

This seems contradictory to Vetteboy 95's response: "I just put in Taylor 8mm and had problems getting the stock looms to close. I am going to get new ones. What a pain to change wires, huh? I did notice a gain in acceleration."

Is the difference between what you did and what Vetteboy95 did a matter of "patience"? Please help, I have put off doing the wires on my 95 because of fears of having to reinvent wire loom solutions. I would like to use the MSD 8.5s in the factory looms.

I don't think there is any possible way to use 8.5 mm wires in the stock looms. It took quite a bit of Dremmling to get my 8mm Taylors to fit the stock looms.
