pulled my engine for rebuild---when I pulled my clutch off it was a mess. the fly wheel and pressure plate are burnt pretty bad, more like destroyed. I just had the clutch installed last season Its a centerforce dual.Ive only done about a dozen good burnouts and never really felt it slipping but it sure must have been. anyone have any thoughts on this. I sure dont want this to happen again.
nobody out there ever burn up a clutch. could a bad slave be the problem. never had any problem getting into gear or shifting
I'm replacing my (stock) clutch again after a year and 4k miles. Last time I didn't do the Flywheel and I suspect (based on what the guy who sold me the clutch says) that the flywheel was actually glazed the first time -- supposedly the dual-mass can glaze without really showing it - no discoloration, etc.
I just changed the clutch fluid to see if it would help; It may have a little bit - it only slips in 1st now, not also in 6th like it was doing. Either way, it needs replacement. Guess I've got my weekend planned...
The Centerforce is built using the stock components, so the friction surface isn't any better. It's just weighted to increase the clamping force. One thing you can look into is a kevlar disk which will improve the heat resistance (supposedly).
dont get me wrong---at this point im not blaming center force at all because I really dont know why this happened. I used the CF because it is one of the best. I called them today and they did make two attempts to get hold of me but im sure we will hook up tomorrow. Ill let you know what there opinion is. I just dont want this to happen again----that flywheel is kind of scary
I have an '86 DNE 4 + 3 that just needed a new clutch at 87,000 miles. The previous owner replaced it 7,000 miles ago, but the car has pretty much sat for 2.5 yrs. Don't know what was in there, but I'll try to find out and pass it along. You guys have me worried now because my mechanic used a rebuilt unit...
I also needed a rear main seal and I suspect (hope) that oil leakage caused the failure. I doubt it's my driving... :D
