What springs do you have now? What sanctioning body will you run under? What class do you want to compete in? Have you competed in AX before? How much seat time do you have, and how much are you planning to get?
I.e., how much do you want to spend versus how often are you going to compete? Stock classes are very competitive but keep the costs down until you acquire a lot of experience. Higher classes cost much more to be competitive and inexperience in the seat can't be overcome with money.
I apologize for not posing an answer to your question, but you must answer all of these first. Apparently minor modifications can move you into a class where you are competing with prepared race cars. Define goals first, assess budget next, then we can work on improvements.
Now, that aside, have a ton of fun. Autocrossing will be the most fun you have with your clothes on :D
A different alignment helps, and there are several recommended alignments in the VetteBrakes' catalogs, they are probably online. I would check in the Road Racing section for experience with those alignments though.
If you dont have Z51 springs & shocks, convert to those, and a bigger front sway bar. If ride quality is not important, do the rear springs as Z51 as well.
I currently have the stock suspenssion (the adjustable one... :bb don't know the actual name 4 it)
My father's partner's son has an '89 porsche 911 all done up and races it every other weekend at the track. I have worke on it with him quite a bit for the past and bit the bug from him. I drive his car at the track quite often. I would say I have around 4-500 hours in the past 5 years. I have NEVER driven the vette at the track... I know I know... totally different....
Even though I am not planning on taking it to the track quite as often as him, I don't believe goin cheap... I am looking for something that will give the car the BEST handling, regardless of the price.
As a hobby I want to build the car to it's full potential...I haven't decited yet if I will compete with it.... I might....
So,
Goals: to drive the car hard at the track every now and then, and not worry that the suspenssion is my weak link :steering:
Budget: I know I'll drop, but I also know you gotta pay to play...
I would ditch the adj. suspension. Get the Z51 or stiffer (Z07 springs). I put a 30mm sway bar in front, well worth it. Get your shocks re-vavled for autox from Bilstein, if you still have stock shocks. Poly bushings,
Bigger brakes always help also.
These guys (http://www.vettebrakes.com/) is one source for some good stuff, like rear Smart Struts¨ maintains rear wheel camber Product ID: 52200.
I'll send an e-mail in the next day or so with some detailed suggestions - lessons learned & advice from top national level drivers. There's just too much to cover on the forum. :flag
Don't spend a dime on the car until your times against the best drivers stop moving. Then decide what you want to do. Make incremental changes so you can see if you did good or bad.
