Re: any difference beyween a delco thermostat and a hypertech stat??? (My 95)
Possibly, only the box they come in and the price. I don't believe that either actually MAKES a thermostat. Compare them closely, they MAY be the same thing. Good luck, and...
Re: any difference beyween a delco thermostat and a hypertech stat??? (My 95)
For what its worth, I tried a 160 degree Robertshaw thermostat in my 87 and it ran terrible. It took ages to warm up and when on the motorway (Highway)
it also ran too cool (honest). As soon as you slowed, it obviously went to the usual 200 degrees (I have a lower temp fan switch fitted). I switched to a 180 degree Robertshaw and it actually ran better. I think a 170 would be ideal, but Robertshaw dosen't make one. I guess you've gathered by now I like Robertshaw 'stats' [(I think they may now be Mr Gasket?? not sure). Discount Auto Parts have em] They certainly made my 87 run cooler than the original GM stat.
There again in FT Myers, you maybe don't have the low temps we have to endure in the UK. (saying that, we have just had the hottest day ever recorded in the UK, 101 degrees), so a 160 may work for you. Just wanted to share my experience. :steering:
Re: any difference beyween a delco thermostat and a hypertech stat??? (My 95)
It WILL be too cool. If the engine doesn't run too cool then it will prolong the warm up time from the 160* mark to the final operating temp. I use a 160* stat, to aid cool down between rounds at the track, but the engine doesn't get hot enough for efficient operation on the highway. As soon as the racing season is over, that thing is OUTTA HERE! What *I* need is a good, externally adjustable thermostat. Save your money, good luck, and...
Re: any difference beyween a delco thermostat and a hypertech stat??? (My 95)
If your looking for a 170* thermostat try one of the marine shops, I use one for a Mercruiser V8 in my V8 Vega for years. As others have said the 160* may keep your motor from getting to usable temp in cooler weather or at highway speeds, also maybe a problem passing a state emmisions test.
Good luck ! :)
