My 84 spends a great deal of it's time sitting in the garage and not being driven. It, generally, gets out on sunny weekends.
We've had a lot of rain this season and the car has seen maybe 1000 miles since May.
I need to get it emissions tested. The closest test center is about 25-30 miles of highway driving from my house.
I was thinking of trying to run it through this afternoon, but the car hasn't been run in about 2 weeks. (2 weeks ago I put about 300 miles on it one weekend) Do you think the 30 mile highway drive will be enough to "clean it out" before I gfet to the station? Or would you try to drive it as much as possible for a week before hand??
It's totally stock wit original low mileage and hasn't had any modifications/alterations to any of the emissions compnents. It's running great and isn't showing any trouble codes or warning lights - I'm hoping it will pass with no problems.
A 30 minute drive should be enough to get the car up to full operating temp. You should be able to pass with no problems assuming everything is working.
30 minute drive should get the temps up good, after she heats up get-it-on to blow 'er out. All stock like you are there should be no problems. Don't sweat it.
There is no 'clean it out' relative to emissions test. The cats need to be hot, that's all. If the engine and smog equipment are running right, you'll pass. I just did my '89, which is only driven 1500 miles a year. Center is less than 10 minutes from my house. Took the long way, spent 3 minutes on the expressway just for grins, and passed.
I've heard of people on this forum passing with no cats and no AIR pump. They say you just have to have it in perfect tune. Don't know where they lived or how strict their testing was but if it's stock it should pass even if it's not in the best of tune.
