Default Location of '85 starter interupt relay?

Can someone quide me to the location of the fore-mentioned relay? It seems like such a lame question - I should be able to look in a Chilton's and find it for myself, but it appears to be some kind of secret!

None of my 4 books on the 1985 Corvette show me where to find this sucker. I can find the MAF relays, the fuel pump relay - even the horn relay (behind the information screen). But I can't find the starter interupt relay to save my life.

Thanks for the assist,
George

I think you mean the start enable relay. It is behind the center of the instrument panel in the multi-use center (a plastic open box on the firewall inside the passenger compartment).

Jake,

I'm convinced there is a plot to keep this part's location secret! The starter interupt relay is a relay in series with the starter solenoid. The clutch switch or neutral safety switch go to it, as well as either the theft deterrent module, central control module, or VATS.

Additional research has shown me that this relay goes by other names:

1984-1985 "Starter Interupt Relay"
1986-1988 "Starter Enable Relay"
1989-1992 "Theft Deterrent Relay" (clutch switch goes directly to solenoid)
1993-1996 "Theft Deterrent Relay"

In all of the above Corvettes, except 1989-1992, the relay is driven by both the anti-theft system, and the safety start switch.

Perhaps you have heard of it by one of it's other names?

Ah YES! I found that sucka. Goes between the VATS, Ignition switch and trans neutral safety switch on my 86. Starter Enable Relay

So now I've got yet another part to worry about dieing on me.

Is there no end to this????????????

Thanks, George and jfb.

Jake

Hey, George.

I found it listed on page 8A-30-2 OF THE 86 GM Shop Manual.

Says in "A" "2"; "Go to the Starter Enable Relay that is behind the center of the Milti-Use Center. There's a picture on page 8A 201 7A

But you already know that.

Jake
