1008 is the right part #. I ordered 2, one for my 94 and one for my friends 96.

I have a 95 LT1 with a Hypertech 160 installed. Keeps the temps down nicely. But is it too cool for winter use? Should I put the stock 180 back in for cool weather? My fan temp settings are stock.

Thanks

Just installed the 160 in my LT4. Dropped the freeway cruising temp from 192-197 to 170-172. It really made a difference for cruising but In traffic it did not make much of a difference.

:iagree:

After you install the 160 t-stat, you'll need to get the fans reprogrammed to come on sooner before you'll see an appreciable drop in your "around town" temps. At least that was my experience...

Well, I ran a 160 this summer and it was okay. But for the midwest winter I put a new Stant 180 in.

When I tried that, the fans were always wanting to be on and it ended up just draining hp from the car and didn't keep the temp down as much. IMO, it was a waste of time. I think the thermostat alone worked fine.

I'm not sure how electric fans drain HP but that aside, I can tell you that after the 160 T-stat was installed but before I reprogrammed the fans, my traffic temps were never under 195. Subsequent to reprogramming the fans to come on earlier (as per the Hypertech PPIII fan settings), they now never seem go over 195...

The "new" Hyperech programming still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You put in a 160 stat and then don't turn the fans on until 192.

I had an early version and the temps never went above about 175, I quess my fans were on high speed all the time???

On my new HPP the temps run anwhere from 173 up to about 190. The fans do come on earlier than 192 based on A/C operation.

I talked to Hypertech to try and get more details as to high, low speed fan operation....operation with A/C off vs on...etc...never got an answer.

With the 160 in and stock fan temps, I run between 166 and 173 unless I'm stuck in traffic and then it will run up into the 190's if I sit long enough. Once moving it comes back to normal quickly. There have been some posts that claim temps below about 180 are too low to burn moisture off. What do you all think?

Its the oil temp that is key in removing moisture from the crankcase. Oil temps above 180 should get the job done. Ideally, you would want oil temps 195 - 200 and coolant temps 180 - 190 all the time but that never happens. Neither coolent nor oil need reach all the way to 212 (boiling point of water) in order for moisture to be removed effectively. It will happen faster at 212, though, but needn't meet or exceed 212 for the process to begin.

Although my car isn't a daily driver and isn't driven in the most extreme winter weather. I have no problems running a 160* stat in the cold Mid-West winters.

I'm in South Florida now but I drove an 88 with a 160 T-stat on a daily basis through three Chicago winters which included plenty of sub-zero days and never had a problem either...

I just replaced my 160 with a 180. I find it runs better in the cooler weather about 180. It always went above 180 in town but sometimes would run less than 160 on the highway. I think that is too cool for a clean burn.

Even during the summer here in Vegas a 160 only delays the inevitable 200-220 degrees. I put a lower temp switch on my aux fan and that seems to slow down the progression a bit. But the Aux fan dosen't put out enough air to blow out a candle.

IMHO.....The 160 is a waste of money unless you are running at the track.
