I'd like to get some cheap performance and thought about headers. I want to keep the factory exhaust and don't want to reduce any reliability. Also, I don't want the car to sound "ricey".
Has anyone added the Hooker headers 2061HKR? What does it sound like and does it give true gain in HP or only sound like extra HP?
You need to ask yourself if you want shorties or long tubes (lt). If you want to maintain as much of the OEM exhaust as you can, go with the shorties. If you want HP increase, especially in the higher RPM ranges, go with LTs. Now the shorties will give some increase in HP, but the real advantages are better looks (over rusty manifolds), reduced heat under the hood, ease of installation and you keep your OEM cats. LTs you have to remove the OEM cats and either eliminate them or buy aftermarket cats and have it all welded together. The LTs give you the HP most guys want from their exhaust. I bought the Hooker Shorties from Jet-Hot and they put a ceramic coating on called "Sterling" they look great. The price was cheaper than Eckler's Hookers w/ Ceramic coating, and the final product is better. I wouldn't think of headers without a good ceramic coating. Now, let's hear from the LT guys. :boxing
I have a set of used Hooker 2061-1 headers for sale, if you are interested. I installed them at the same time I did heads/cam. So, it is hard to say what performance increase they made.
