Having trouble with my Dragon's breath kit. Mavbe I don't have a stock alternator like I thought. The kits I see in the catalogs and online don't look like they will attach to my alt. I have a tab in the middle, with no attachment point on the far left side of the alt. What kit did you purchase, and did you use the same belt as some say you can? Thanks, :seeya
The bracket for the stock 85 alternator will have a large oval hole cut in the plate. It will fit the stock 85 and a CS144 alternator. I did the template for the 85. Stock belt will fit.

Are you talking about the Dragon's Breath piece? The first one sent ot me was not drilled properly. The 2nd one sent was closer, but I've still had to do some machining, and I'm having trouble with it. I just want to know what kit people have that works without a hitch. :seeya
I also have the Breathless Preformance air pump eliminator kit on my 85. Had it for two years. Never a problem.......Not to mention the air I am saving....LOL...... :D
I got my kit from Dragon's Breath here on the GP going on. I have an 85 and didn't have fitment issues. I did have to loosen the alternator and shift it a little farther to the outside corner in order to get everything to bolt up. Was even able to keep one of the alterator supports to the manifolds with slight bending! I thought it was a great kit, cheaper then the BreathlessPerformance item, and looks a lot better. Hopefully he will be able to help you out with your issues.

My Dragon's Breath unit was $143 with black plastic pulley. DB sent me another bracket free of charge after I told them about the 1st one. That is all I expect - I guess it is up to me now. I will try moving the alt. a bit to see if that helps. Thanks for all the replies my 85 brothers!! :seeya
I made it work, thank god, she's running absolutely effortlessly. I opened up 2 of the 3 bolt holes and only used the 2 at the base and one on the alt. The belt was not tight enough, so I had to re-drill a hole in the bracket for the pulley. I measured the distance from the top of the air pump pulley to the top of the center bolt of the power steering pulley, and then applied that distance to the DB bracket and it works. I also had to re-drill the bracket-alt hole - moving it more toward the center of the bracket and higher up. I've noticed that EM has an AIR elim kit that is specific for 85-86 cars. They may be on to something. I'm going ot get in touch with Bob at DB and give him some input. Thanks again for the help guys - this mod seems to have even steadied my idle. :seeya
