i agree. rebuild it and stroke it (more cubes(383 or 396)) if i had to do it again, i probably wouold opt for the 396. take your time and do research/ask questions here. alot of guys here really know their stuff.
So far my rod bearings are bad. I built up the top end, port and polished heads and intake, cam, roller rockers, yada, yada. Thought the bottom end would hold. It only has 58000 miles on it. A couple of times at about 6200 RPM's and I have rods knocking.
Anyway, does anyone know what a stock bottom ends max RPM's are? I wouldn't want a used one but maybe new. Or if I can find a good deal on parts I would rebuild it. I'm a little short on funds now that I put it into the top end.
Hey Brian, I have a 95. If I rebuilt mine and used ARP rod bolts would it hold up then or are there other parts that wouldn't hold up? How are the rods and crank?
Hmm, this is interesting. I just had a rocker arm nut loosen up on me this weekend at an AutoX. Was reving past 6K. The guy I bought the car off of had the tranny setup for 6200 rpm shiftpoints and rev limitor of godknows what (but it was definately higher then 6300rpm). I am going to reprogram to keep it under 6K from now on.
But what is a "safe" limit for a 94 LT1 block with LT4 top-end? Other then the valve-train upgrade no bottem-end work has been done.
