Default Fun cleaning up messes left behind

As I have mentioned before, my 88 was whacked on the passenger side before I bought it. Whoever did the repairs did a half butt job. I am trying to get some of the power accesories working. The power locks did not work at all, the hatch releases on either door do not work and the courtesy lights do not turn on with the door. I replaced the lock switch harness and switch on the passenger side. All of that stuff was disconnected. When I tried to attach to the power lock actuator, the connector on the wire harness did not macth up to the connector on the power lock solenoid. I think the door was replaced with one from a different model year and therefore has slightly different connections. So I need to find the correct connector for the power lock solenoid for an 88. I was hoping to simply cut off the existing end and splice in the correct end. If someone has an old harness sitting around and they could simply snip that wire I would be happy to pay for it. The power lock solenoid in that door also appears to be POP-RIVETED into place. :( I assume that isn't the way they are from the factory.

What is used to hold the door panel top trim pieces in place? I got a replacement trim piece and it looks like some sort of nut is used to hold it in by the three posts that are on the back but I have no such fasteners. The prior owner solved the problem by driving a long screw through the top of the old trim piece. :( I don't plan on taking the same approach with this piece.

After replacing the power door lock switch and connector I can use the power locks to lock and unlock the driver door! Whoopeeeee, small progress but progress just the same.

Well I picked up the factory elctrical manual on ebay, got my eyes open for a good deal on the regular service manual. The electrical manual is great! Makes it easy for a even a Vette novice like me to get an idea of how things are working and how to troubleshoot and locate them.

If no one answers before this, the top panels are attached to the door panel with 3 jam nuts (pal nuts). I have the same problem with the one I just got, after a door off paint job, the previous owner put the interior back together with a Makita drill. BARF.

Most paint supply shops have a great selection of odd nuts, bolts screws clips, etc. I found these pal nuts( or whatever they are called) at my local ppg jobber. They also carry all the interior screws and oter stuff priced fairly.

I bet you'll have to use a "Big Daddy" pop riveter. I broke down and bought one to help replace the electric window motors. It uses big rivets.

you can but I just used a screws with locknuts on them to hold it in.

its a blind rivit so you would need a pop rivit gun for the job I could have used one at work but I just did the screw and nut job workes just fine..
