Default Cruise Control Troubleshooting

The cruise control has gone out in my '95. Is there some troubleshooting steps I can take to see if it's fixable by me (I'm no mechanic, but I can read real well)? If not, what kind of prices am I looking out to getting it repaired?

The diagnostic charts for troubleshooting the cruise control are rather complicated and lengthy. I wouldn't attempt to list them here. The simplest thing is to try to determine if the cable is binding or broken. Check the 5 amp fuse on the fuse block. Other than that, buy a service manual, get out your voltage meter and have at it! :smash:

When my cruise went out on my '86, it was the vacuum lines that attach at the servo (near the firewall). The lines became old and cracked. There was enough slack available that I just cut off the 1/2 inch of bad and slid the newly cut end onto the vacuum port.

Hope yours is this simple. Good luck.

There was a post with contributing "easy fixes" for cruise control running for the past few days. Had alot of good points. It is probably at the bottom of the first page of tech forum, might have made it to the second page, but you shouldn't even have to do a search. Good luck.

Another place to look for the culpret is under the left (passenger) side fuel rail cover. There is a small "T" vacume fitting that is prone to breakage due to heat. Your local dealer will have this plastic fitting for around 3-4 bucks.

Easy fix if this is the problem. Was for me and many others!

Good luck.
