Default Has anybody serviced or repaired a bad power seat switch?

I've got a faulty reverse only function in my passenger side power seat switch, and I'm wondering if anybody's ever repaired/cleaned/serviced it or should I just replace the thing? These suckers are 50 bucks or so used on E-Bay!!!!
I haven't gotten the side hush panel off yet to pull it, 'cause there's a stripped trim screw near the seatbelt anchor and I got frustrated, so I decided to let it sit for a bit before I.............errr.........."continued the disassembly" with a freakin' roto hammer

Tim, when I had my 87, my "joystick" suffered the same malady. When I found the hair-raising price, I removed it and drenched it with CRC QD electronic cleaner. You can take them apart if you're careful, but I didn't do it this time. Long story short, I put it back in and it worked. I figure that the location allows it to become contaminated with spilled soft drinks, etc. Any way, I had the car for five more years and never gave it another thought.

Yes, I had several of the seat switches on my 86 that were bad. I removed them and took them apart and cleaned the contacts with electrical cleaner and some very fine sand paper. Mine were corroded beyond the point that a simple spray with cleaner would cure. If you are careful with the disassembly and reassembly, it's not a bad job. I did mine over a white sheet so as not to lose small parts. So, yes you can fix them. All my switches work fine now.

How hard is it to remove? I don't see a real "easy" way on my 84 as it is mounted in the center console. Could be a big job to remove it I'm afraid. :banghead:

The center consol is fairly easy to remove on my 86.

vsocks, it's fairly straightforward; you just have to work your way back up the dash a bit, as the console is tucked under some other pieces that need to come out first. The seat comes out in just a couple minutes and then the side carpeted hush panel can be unscrewed and pulled aside to reveal the switch.

Unfortunately in my case, I'll have to drill out a trim screw on the seat side of the hush panel 'cause it's spinning in there and won't back out......must be screwed into a metal clip that's come loose
