That recently had a t350 tranny installed in his vette. He had some pictures up on the net showing the install. I would like to see if the shop that did his bracket, would entertain selling me a bracket for my car.
I would really like to move up to a T350. The 700r4 I have from Pro-build shifts perfectly, but the 1-2 drop in RPM and overall efficiency of the 700s nature I know is costing me some ET that I would like to overcome.
I will most likely be selling my Pro-Built tranny that was built to take low 10s season after season. Also i will be selling my Vigilante converter at 4200 stall. I have never driven a 700 that shifts as good as this one. The ratchet shifter this year, really made the shifts crisp and near instant. 2-3 hits so hard you can hear the rear tires break at WOT! I will most likely be selling the entire setup for around $2K, the tranny alone was 1700, and the converter was $750 (just redone in october 03).
Anyone that knows this guy or someone that might have a lead. Please let me know.
hey ski, have you considered a 2 speed powerglide. i dont know how easy it would be to install but a lot of the 9 and 10 second guys run these.
Glides are for 2500 and less pound race cars. It would never work with a 3450# car.
I am VERY hesitant about what a T350 will do to my 60' times due to this. The 3.06 first gear in these 700s help the launch of these heavy cars. But I think the loss there would be overcome by the great efficiency and reduced 1-2 shift.
do you drive your car on the street? if you do why not th400.
All the time. Yes the 400 would be an option. But While they are stronger in the sense of withstanding 1000s of hp, which I am not close to they are less efficient than the 350.
I feel that my tranny, knock on wood, will be more than enough to take the power I am dishing out, so the real reason for the switch is to gain power through efficiency.
Dad just bought a Turbo350 from Rossler Transmissions that will take up to 1500hp repeatedly. His 555 CI motor in a 3700+ pound chevelle should be capable of mid to high 9s. Leaving the line off the trans brake.
I just feel that the 700r4 is a killer of ET. Great for the street, just not the perfect scenerio I would like to have in the car.
Also *if* I ever got to a heavy shot of nitrous on this motor. Which it was built to take with the Dart Block, Crower Billet Rods, JE pistons etc. The 700 tranny would not take the 900+ hp a 300 shot would deliver on this critter. A 350 would though. At that point it would have a solid axle in it also
You need a 9" ( long) tail turbo 350 and the $60 spacer and it bolts right back to your c-beam. BUT YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR ORIGIONAL TAILSHAFT FROM THE 700, you swap that and the spacer ( all hardware included) right onto the turbo 350.I used my stock drive shaft too. I used the stock shifter and ground the new pattern in and used the stock cable and mounting bracket. I hooked vacume to the modulator, but i didn't hook up a kickdown cable.

I bought my long tail trans from Autozone ( $400) and had them put a sprag in it and a $26 B&M shift kit....so far it's excellent.
My 85 was stock( bolt on's) running 13.7 @97 with a 1.86 60' ( 3.07 gear) on motor.
then i switched to a carb, Dart iron eagles ( 180cc) dual plane weiand stealth, 750 VS carb, 224-234 cam @.050 and 2500 stall turbo 350 and the stock 3.07 gear....so by all rights it should have lost 60'...well no it's EXACTLY the same....but it did pick up 10 MPH 1st time out
explain to me why and how a th350 is more efficient than a th400.
ill try to take a stab at it..
considering a th400 is stronger then obviously has heavier, bulkier parts
am i close...
If the TH350 and the TH400 are related in the same way the Chrysler 904 and 727 are related (the 904 being equivalent to the TH350 and the 727 eq. to the TH400) the 904 is seen as some as better for drag racing because the internals are smaller/lighter than the 727 - less mass to spin = more HP to the wheels and quicker acceleration. A buddy of mine races an H/SA Demon and a A/SA Max Wedge and he told me once that some of the mopar guys were cheating and modifying 727 transmission housings to use 904 guts. It's only cheating if they catch you...
