Default Are headers worth it on an L-98?

I have just read the other post about headers. So is it worth doing? What kinda hp/tq gains/losses you guys experiencing?
Do you still pass emissions/inspection ok?
How much a true PITA are they to install? I have heard not to do them cause they heat up things like starters/fuel lines and oil pumps too much....any truth to this?

I am looking to increase more hp but not make the car any louder....so will headers make the exhaust any louder?

thanks....sorry for so many questions.....

i gained 20 rwhp with headers and no cats. if you put a freeflow cat on you will have no problems passing emissions and it wont be much louder if any. it took me a day to put mine on and it wasnt that bad. i had to do a little grinding on the front right crossmember but thats it. i have had no problem with the fuel lines or starter. if you where worried you could wrap the started it keep it cooler.

The car will be a good bit louder, but they give about 15hp.

You wont pass a visual if its stringent where you live, but you can pass a sniffer with a good main cat.

All exhaust mods on the L98 help it gain HP. The stock exhaust is very restictive.

I would say definately get them. Hard to say who makes the best. I would listen to the majority for which ones to buy.

Seem to work well for me. My car seems alive with flow. Love the series 50 Flowmasters too. Nice and grumpy loud. Sometimes I wish Harley made muflers for the Vette. Ha Ha

Had my 90 at the track on Sat. and went from 13.91 t 13.63 with just the headers (hookers) through a stock cat and stock mufflers. They were a bit of a pain to install especially the Y Pipe but well worth it. GOOD LUCK

Just bought a Hooker 2149 set with the matched Y pipe.
The Y pipe (the one from the headres to the stock center cat) is a piece of xxxx!
It was delivered with a weld in a wrong place letting a continuous leak all around the pipe.
I had to weld again to a muffler shop.
I have this set since july and I have no time to install it!! .. and this make me crazy because I want to see how my car likes this mod.

I passed emissions with my TPIS headers and Random Cat (Power Effects Exhaust) without any big issue.

The headers really wake up the L98 along with a free-flow cat and exhaust. The car will be louder than without headers. As for heat, they're not so bad. Nothing that spark plug boots and careful looming can't overcome.
