Default Another intake runner bolt question :)

Ok, I put in new injectors, egr valve & switch, painted the runners & plenum on my `87, & it looks pretty good. Of course now I forget where all the bolts go in the runners, & naturaly the manuals don`t have any pictures of this. I put all the torx bolts back in the runners, but I have two long ( like 5 inches ) regular bolts on each side. I figure that they go between the runners, but they bottom out before seating. I looked in archives, & diden`t find any answers or pictures. Anyone know?

Thanks Ken

The only bolts in that area 5" long that come to mind are the (4) TB to plenum bolts or the (4) A/C compressor bolts. I believe these are both 10mm size.

Indeed all the lower runner bolts are Torx and the (4) fuel rail bolts are 10mm. The upper runner bolts are mostly Torx, except for the three that hold the cable bracket and the one 10mm stud at the rear of the cable brackets.

BTW, in the future you may find it helpful to put any removed bolts, brackets, and such into zip-lock bags with lables.

I just finished putting my intake together again like 3 hours ago, and 2 5inch long 10mm bolts on each side sounds EXACTLY like the 4 throttle body bolts

Sounds like the throttle bolts although you said they are torx heads? Did you remember to put the 2 bolts in the backside of the runners underneath the plennum? Maybe you've got some of the bolts mixed up and left those out? Just a thought. good luck!

Very simple: just stick the bolts in the runners and look to see how far the threads stick out the other side.

When the correct bolts are in the correct holes, all the threads should extend the same amount.

What he said.

Runner bolts are:
(20) M8x30mm (threads are 30mm long)
(4) M8x55mm
(2) M8x35mm

The 55mm bolts go inbetween the runner pairs on bottom. The 35mm bolts are the ones that thread in backwards into the lower runner flange... the 30mm are the rest.

Fuel rail bolts are:
(4) M8x40mm for the rail itself
(2) M8x20mm for the flange that bolts to the intake base.
