I have a 96 convertible that has been lowered and I need to get under it. I have some cleaning to do. I have tried ramps and they just slide whilst I am trying to drive on. I have a floor jack that is just an inch too tall. With my 90 convertible it wasn't a big deal to lift since it was stock height. Which is the best floor jack to get, lowest and lifts highest? Is it possible to make the ramps stop sliding? What am I forgetting to try. All help is appreciated.
Viagra!! Try using the stock jack to get it high enough to get the floor jack under then make sure you put some jackstands under it before doing any work.
Years ago I bought the extensions for a set ramps I had. The extensions alone are perfect for getting my lowered Vette high enough to get a floor jack under it -- just another solution
(Mine is too low to drive up the ramps, even with the extensions)
I was able to use a couple of 96" 2x4's to stop the ramps from sliding. I placed them between the ramps and the step up in the garage floor. That kept them from sliding. I also used the little extensions that come with the ramps and was able to drive up without any problems. After I was able to keep the ramps from sliding I went real slow. The rear end was lifted all at once by a floor jack with a 4" long piece of 2x4 on the differential.
As far as the Viagra comments, you should be ashamed. Bad Vette owners, BAD!!

yes use jackstands I used ramps and the back tires were not properly blocked and the Vette rolled off onto my chest luckily I was under the floorpans and it dented in. It happend in the first of August and I'm still sore

88421 I am glad you are OK. I hope there is no permanent damage to you ar the car.
Yes I do believe in safety. I make sure it isn't going to move before I get under it. I wish ramps had safety blocks on them. Maybe I'll invent some.
Here's an easy trick to keep your ramps from sliding:
Tie a long piece of rope to each ramp, at least as long as the car. Now run the rope down the path where the tires will run over it. As your front tires are moving up the ramps, the rear tires are on top of the rope, thus preventing the ramps from sliding.
i drive it onto front ramps parking brake on car off.
acctually i take a hydraulic jack put it to the right or left side (dont matter which) of where the exhaust splits to go to the mufflers. basically its right under the differential. I jack it up and then put the jack stands under the 2 rear contorl arms or whatever they are....make sure they are from equal length from each wheel. then give it a good nudge from the side of the car to make sure its sturdy!
I come in from the back its the easiest.
