Default K & N cut out

My question is when you put in the K & N air filter do you cut out the top piece or the bottom one??

The top one because if you were to cut the bottom you would get non-filtered air into the engine.

Thansk and yes, it's a length of plastic wire harness wrap you can get at any car parts store (I got mine at Checkers). I actually got the idea from someone else here on the forum (sorry, can't remember who) when I asked about cutting the lid. I simply slid it on, cut it to length and used a couple of drops of super glue on the inside (at the corners and seam) to hold it in place.

I'm in the process of moving and been too busy to get to a dyno, so I can't give you numbers. I can tell you I can feel a difference since cutting it; she's a little quicker of the light and has a little more power, especially at the lower end. I believe others have said you can 3-5 more HP, but don't quote those numbers, I could be wrong.

Thought about buying an open one, but ended up just cutting mine with a rotozip.
