Hi all
I am not mechanically inclined yet I have found myself owning a very souped up car.
It is an 87 Coupe with a ZZ-4 Crate Motor mated to a Richmond 6 speed transmission. It has a 355 rear end. It is using a very free flowing 3" exhaust with a crossover pipe in the rear (before the mufflers). It is using the stock TPI setup from what I can determine.
The shifter has a very short throw, I can almost shift with wrist action only, not moving my arm.
I have driven a 96 LT-4 6 speed, a 94 LT-1 6 speed and a 92 ZR-1. The only car that felt similiar was the ZR-1. In my opinion I can smoke both the 96 LT-4 and the 94 LT-1, my car just felt so much stronger during the test drives.
So my main question is, does my car compare to the ZR-1 in as far as HP and Torque go?
From what I have found the car is now rated at 385 HP and 405 Lbs Torque (ZZ4 with TPI injection). Is this accurate?
I have receipts for more then $22,000 in work on the drivetrain, alot of it related to the engine and labor charges.
Are there things I need to watch out for with my motor?
Thanks and any opinions are appreciated..
Rich
P.S. If I am wrong with my figures I will correct my signature of course.

Wow! Sounds sweet. I'll let others take a shot at estimated HP.
What I want to know is did it pass smog when you bought it? If so, I want one!!!

This was a big concern to me. I have not had it smogged yet, nor have I been to the DMV yet. But the seller assures me it will smog, a carfax revealed it did smog in March (which was after the work was done). I think I will take it to the same smog station he did. Do you know if I have to have it done since is passed in March?
Thanks

I think a 'smog' is required during title transfer.
I like to have the seller provide that before I complete the sale. (info for the future for you).
Do the visual before you take it to a shop.
cats, original intake/exhaust and smog plumbing (you probably have aftermarket headers - hope they have Ca stamp)
Also - take it to a shop that will run a pre-test. They can tell you if it will pass emissions without registering a 'fail.' The results of the test are in a database in Sacramento (I think) and 'fails' and gross polluters are given special attention.

Dave,
The entire engine compartment looks STOCK. Including the stock tubular headers, heat shields and Air tubing!!!
Im positive it passes the visual, it looks exactely like the 86 I used to have from the top view.

Great! That is one BIG hurdle. Sounds like the previous owner was careful.
