I've seen it mentioned a few times about this heavy disk on the front of the water pump. What years had it? What was its' purpose and has anyone actually dynoed with and without to see if it made any difference?

It's not on my '87 for sure.

Thanks!
Randy

I think '88 had a pulley and bracket change from '87, so it runs '88-'91. It's an 8-10lb steel disk that reportedly relieves stress on the Al mounting brackets. As an aside it also soalks up about 10hp. Needless to say mine is history.

There may be something to that "save the brackets stuff". I just pulled my AIR pump bracket to remove the left rocker cover and found that one bracket ear was broken off.

I'll have it welded up with extra fillet and still leave the "frisbee" off though (I'm not giving up those 10HP).

JD, you might want to have those two outer ears reenforced if you pull you "frisbee". Though I haven't examined all the brackets, I think they may be the weakest link.
