Hey guys, I am about to close a deal with a 1991 Black C4, and I am bringing the front plate from the current Vette to cover it on the way home. (North Carolina car being picked up in Ohio and driven back to Illinois). Anyways, I was wondering what kind of adhesion is required to affix the plates. Would the 87 screws work on the 91's with the new rear end and all? Thanks!

In NJ, you are allowed to drive a used car home from place of sale without plates as long as you have a bill of sale and an insurance policy. You should notify your ins co before you drive it home.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I did talk with the insurance company and it will be insured fro the moment we get into the car, but we wont have proof unless we called thte company. We will have a Bill of Sale, but no title (at sellers bank). Looks like I'm axing the plate idea. Thanks alot for your help guys. I should be back home with it at this time tomorrow!

Yes Steve, it's true, I don't have it in writing, but I bought a car 12 years ago and drove it home with no plates or registration. I notified my insurance company and I had called DMV or the local police(I forget) They said it was OK.
If you put plates on it from another car, you're asking for trouble in the off chance you will get pulled over.
Also, you are better off with no inspection sticker rather than one that is expired.

Cool, I'd like to know if I'm right or not, it's been a while since I've had to do anything like this.

PLEASE DON'T DO IT! If any patrol unit runs the plate and it comes back to a different veh. they'll assume it's stolen and you'll be proned out at gunpoint!!!! Also if you have a personalized plate don't just swap it-same thing applies!!!! Leaving the plate off is better-most states' DMV's have temp. papers to affix to a window.

Glad you got your car! Now you can start coming to our local get-togethers. Next one is Aug. 12th, at Vettewrench's shop. Check the Great Lakes Area forum.
