I have an '86 with a MAF L98. After my engine swap is done I'd like to be able to sample data and check error codes with my laptop to make sure the Formato PROM is running well and that there are no problems. All I want to do is run diagnostic software. But which program should I use? I've already bought an AKM interface cable but I can't figure out what software to use. It seems like the older ECMs aren't well supported in this regard. If I have to I'll break down and rent a Diacom but I'd prefer to own my own setup. Thanks!

I got an AutoXray several years ago long before I got the lap top. Now I'm not sure what software to use but it will be invaluable in diagnosis and tuning. Be sure that it can log events and data over time as well as give snapshots of data.

Andrew's site has a list of many programs. Also ask the www.thirdgen.org prom board. I don't know how well the $32 cal is supported. You might have to buy a program or find someone who's made up the code for your cal. Then again, it might be out there somewhere. If your car is an auto, you should've switched to $6E (89) code. There's a lot more info on it and more programs support it. Good luck.
