So I disc the alt one wire at the back, fire it up, check the voltage at the rear of the alt and no output. My brother says "maybe it's sensing there's no where to send the power". I hope not as I'm replacing the alt, soon. I've read enough here to shy away from the lifetime warranty guys and should get a replacement/rebuild with a "iceberg" kit attached but I'm thinking; Why not a later model 140 amp unit? Will it fit my 91? Any info and references appreciated...Frank

You have a defective alternator. The alternator output should be 14 v even with the output wire disconnected as long as you also have the connector plugged in. My alternators last about 5 years and I put GM alternators in.

Frank, these alternators are NOT vette specific. If you're going big give Summit a call. They beat prices and the service is outstanding.

Not all alternators are the same. You get what you pay for. Purchase the best car specific alternator you can afford, and avoid going for cheap rebuilts from places like AutoZone.

What I did with mine was have the original
rebuilt. Cost me $100 -- just make sure that
he uses Delco components.

If you're looking for more current capacity,
I'd talk to the rebuilder & see what he can do. Bottom line is I've got the original alternator in the car, it's fresh, & it looks
new.

Did the same with the starter motor.
