The pulley on my a/c compressor clutch is making alot of noise. The compressor works perfectly, but the bearing in the pulley is worrying me. Can I just replace that so I don't have to open the a/c and recharge it? Or should I just get a new compressor? it's a 1990 model.

Craig,is it making noise just when the compressor is running or all the time. If its just when the compressor is running it may be a bearing inside the compressor. If all the time, then just the pulley bearing and moffits advice goes. Good Luck.

Moffit, thanks! I've got the helms manuals and priced the clutch service kit from GM which includes the bearings.
Joe, yeah, it makes noise all the time. I took the belt off and spun it by hand and you can hear it. The a/c works really well and I don't want to open the system up for any reason, so I was hoping I could just service it on the car to avoid an R12 recharge/refill!
