Confused on which heads to use.....
#1
Plain and simple, which heads to use on a '91 L98? Last week I had decided on useing AFR 190's, then over this weekend I'm told Brodix heads and some other aftermarket brand would be the better way to go. Then theres stocks head, do all the porting and polishing, blah, blah.

You need to decide how you what the car to perform Etc..
I have CNC L98 heads.. Some like AFR some brodix..
Depends on what type of power you want.. cam intake ETC..
I am happy with the CNC heads on my 355

For the intake going to go with TPIS Mini-Ram. On the cam a ZZ-9, here are some specs from TPIS on that cam:
ZZ-9 Hydraulic Roller
Intake Exhaust
Advertised duration 282 287
Duration at .050 212 226
Gross lift .483 .520
Lobe separation 112
*This cam uses #700-132 springs
700-150 Late
700-151 Early
Super Profile L-98 Hydraulic Roller
Advertised duration 273 277
Duration at .050 218 219
Gross lift .415 .433
Lobe separation 108
Along with a balanced bottom end and flat top pistons. Huummmm...... which heads now, or should I say which ones would ya use?

Here is how my 89 is set up..
-4 bolt block
-Scat Steel crank
-Stock rods
-Hypereutectic pistons
-CNC L98 Heads (done by CNC heads in Pinellas Park FL)
-approx 10.5:1 compression
-ZZ9 Cam
-Miniram
-52mm TB
-Hooker 1-3/4" full length headers
-dual Random 2-1/2" bullet cats
-LT1 modified Flowmaster catback exhaust
-Promagnum 1.6i/1.52e roller rockers
-Rotating assembly is balanced
I am running my stock 3.45 gear and ZF6
I have not tuned it yet.. the times and horsepower are with the car running a bit on the rich side and I only had roller tip rocker (not that it will be a big difference)
Best ET 12.820 @109.94
301.6 RWHP @ 5550 RPM
340.0 RWTQ @ 3550 RPM

You have to look at the already mentioned application:
Street only
Strip only
AutoX only
All of the above?
Octane you want to run. Auto or manual. Smog legal or not. Does it need to idle in traffic well? Will it overheat during rush hour or in the drive-thru line? Stall converter with auto and many other variables. Do you have higher compression to support bigger heads, exhaust to support bigger heads, cam for the heads, heads for the cam and gears to support all of the above? There may not be a "right" answer for you, but a compromise of sorts. I'm sure budget must be an issue as well. Speed costs money.....
Come up with a realistic idea of what you want the car to do before dropping any money into it or you will make expensive mistakes.

Well I think if I switched to the Sped density like on your car it would help. I plan on htat this winter. but to get to the 350-400 RWHP.. I think you will need a bit better flowing head and a different cam.. Although.. I think if I removed my cats it will help a bit too.
I am actually starting to plan my next motor. not that this one is bad but I have a nice 400 block I want to build.. Not sure what route I will go with that yet
