Some minor changes to make, since I seem to answer this once/ week now

Wheels-
Those with 84-87 cars must use rims made with the 38mm offset for the 9.5" rim, otherwise they must use an adapter (not a spacer, thats something a bit different) or it'll sit in about 1" (the one from Vettebrakes is good quality). The ZR1 offset is 36.5mm in rear (still fits without an adapter) Please mention AFSwheels.com as a vendor for 84-87. Basically, the more you can put in about wheels: the better. 88+ owners can use C5 rims or any of 88-96 without a problem.

D36=7, 9/16" ring gear, some books list it as 7.75"

In 86, the last 8594 86 coupes were aluminum headed, around 19130 VIN for coupes.

I dont want to plug my website, but there are several links within that include some useful information, but I would prefer you to list The Last Detail among parts vendors, they give pretty damn good prices

Just a note to the n00bs on how effect the forum search can be. I did a search for "ZF6 fluid" and the FAQ came up.

You guys would be amazed what turns up with an advanced search and searching in just the C4 sections, this FAQ comes up more often than not at the top of the list.

Good listing Bogus.

Correction.. thats MY VATS site... I had help from a lot of people getting all the info together to make it a wonderful info dump to help others with.

I will be getting a domain for it soon so it will be easier to remember in the future.

---------------

BTW I did the ZF6 Tranny oil change today:
Pats I had to buy:
1 - Suction Gun - AutoZone $8
2 - 17MM Hex Key (allen wrench) - Sears $9 (NOBODY else had a 17MM hex)
3 - 3 1qt bottles of the GM manual tranny fluid - 12345349 FLUID-TRA $10.41/ea

It took about an hour, was REALLY easy, but REALLY messy. Ill do a write up of it in its own topic later.

GM Trans FLUID HAS A NEW PART NUMBER!I bought this straight from a Chevy dealer this morning .The bottle also has the new part number on it. The parts lady stated this was the new number also.

12345349 FLUID-TRA $10.41/ea is what my receipt says.

This looks just like a quart of oil or any other tranny fluid. Blackish/grey bottle with plain jane font on the front lable describing its the gm syncromesh (sp?) manual transmission fluid. It does NOT look like the blue labeled bottle on the gmpartsdirect website.

Most junkyards carry them, guessing a good parts store or mech shop might. TONs and TONS if cool info there. Youd be shocked at what parts can interchange with others.

Check acdelco.com

You can enter a part number and find all applications for it.

Keep in mind GM changed the bias valve a bunch of times, which didn't effect fitment. Also, there are different p/n's for original parts vs. replacement parts.

Actually... no! I wouldn't be surprised. It's something I learned when reading about Ferrari 308s... of the bits of trivia I remember, this was the one that stuck with me: The temp sensor. It is screwed into the radiator. It's made by Bosch and has a cross ref to a Rabbit Diesel. The Ferrari part was like $70.00... the VW part, under $15.00. It's all in the name, yo.

I wonder if that info is available on CD?

I guess junkyards would need that... all I remember was the hotline terminals.

You can get the 17 MM allen at Autozone. It comes in a package with 2 other Allen head sockets. It was $7 four or 5 months ago. This is also mentioned at www.zfdoc.com

The new number has never actually been confirmed to be the correct replacement for the old stuff. While I am 99% sure that the new number is OK to use, you won't find any documentation from GM that says it's good to go. Parts people will tell you it is, but there is nothing written down. Some might consider that a technicality, but it's worth mention.

Any chance that this info will be consolidated to one spot? It seems like there is quite a bit of good info, just scatter over hundreds of posts.

I have a goal, that is to take all that info and turn it into a manual... And add in my LT1 conversion.

I don't have the authority to merge them, either. That would require a Mod or Admin.
Yeah, the manual would be great. I stopped at page 10 of the "LS1 in a C4" thread because of all the random information was too much to absorb.

There is a thread about a possible Corvette Fever article about using an LS4 in a C4. That may be a great addition to any information your going to use. With that article and what knowledge that can be gathered from those on the forum who have actually performed the conversion, I think most will have a real good idea of what is involved and estimated costs.

I would like to add a "Tech Factoid" to this thread relating to a secret running change made to LT1 cars. The LT1 Corvette had reliability issues with power steering pressure hose & reports of engine bay fires resulted in recall.

Several running changes were made to o-rings. These efforts were largely unsuccessful because the real culprit was engine vibration and the steel line was fracturing under the fittings.

Sometime in 1995, GM re-engineered the P/S pressure hose, snaking it with a 90 degree turn under the idler pulley toward the right side of the car and then downward with a counterclockwise twist into the rack. This special hose #26042088 was the proper fix for all LT1/4. Anyone with a '92-'96 car needs this hose. Sometime in very late 1995 or early 1996, GM made another modification. They added a threaded restraint boss to the large aluminum accessory bracket that holds the P/S. This threaded boss points leftward and it's positioned just behind the idler pulley. The newer style #26042088 hose will clamp to this new boss using a restraint clamp. This improves durability of the upper steel section of the hose under high RPM use. The newer style P/S hose is a great upgrade and it's even more durable if you swap out your old accessory braket for a newer one.

        Hope this helps.
