Is it at all possible to remove and disconnect this panel?
I would re-route the SES/E-BRAKE warning lights, but the others I've never seen tripp, and I want to install a small LCD touchscreen in place of it... Would that be possible, or would it throw a code ya'll think?
If you are talking about the info center, keep in mind it plugs into your guage cluster. You would have to choose the functions you want displayed all the time, and if I looked at the wiring diagram right, ground the wires that go to that function. I am sure some one with a better understanding of them will chime in. Randy

I've been wanting to do this too. The first task was to find a screen that fits behind there. You need one with thin borders... I took some measurements on the plastic to see how much room i had to work with and still keep the stock look.
What would be really trick, is video overlay that spit out the engine codes onto the screen, and have a gtech competition with a video output too...

I believe he's talking about the one on the right, not the one with switches...
although those switches seem pretty useless, the only one i really ever use is the volt/coolant one.. and the car shows you volts at startup anyways, so who needs it!
For what it's worth, I have the plastic piece the the center information panel is attached to. If anyone wants it, just pay for shipping. It would be easier to mock up your stuff on a bench or use it to relocate the panel. It's no good to me.
That's a great idea to put it under the armrest, just extend the contact wiring for the idiot lights. I might consider that.
I was looking into a touchscreen that fit perfectly in the open space, but it is a MAJOR pita to program the microcontroller for it, and the resolution just wouldn't allow for mire than 128x256 or 64x256. I forgot which one.
(So the mini carPC/MP3 player/on-board Diagnostics wouldn't work)
It would have been cool though, little icons for the idiot lights and the on-boar ddiagnostics..

Yeah, I was dreaming up something out of a video game, with a wireframe overhead of the vette with touchscreen graphics for controlling exhaust cutouts, nitrous, ecm programs, and even sensor and gforce readouts.

Now, is there video screens that don't have the controls on them? What do these guys use for custom installs, where the controls are just on the stereo?

You can get LCD displays that are 'bare' without any plastics or bezels or controls. That's what I am going to do. Just have to make sure it comes pre-wired for the hookup, and has an integrated backlight/microcontroller so you don't have to do the hard parts.. Or just buy an LCD dusplay (of the right size) and remove the plastic/holder and mount it customly in your display.
The only other option is to use an in-dash manual or motorized lcd display that comes out of the 1/2din in-dash holder. Only problem is, considering most of our vettes ride pretty harsh, I wouldn't trust those gears/setups to last long..
I have a friend working on porting over winaldl to linux which would make this thing rock on linux and wouldn't need windows. Hopefully it will work as I hope it will.
