I thought it was pretty straight forward and fairly easy. No big deal, here.

Setting up the proper pinion depth and ring mess takes some skill and knowledge. If you don't get it right standby for some whining gears and short life.

Uhh, thats the rear end buddy
The rack and pinion is steering, ring and pinion is differential

From what I have read, it seems pretty easy, I'll be putting in a Z51 quick ratio rack later this summer.

No big deal. Be sure to remove sway bar and have the proper tube wrenches. I switched to a Z51 rack since there was no differece in price. Did my own toe in with a tape measure.

I've had mine out 2 different times, first for poly bushings, then for a boot that split, yeah I know, why didn't I change it while it was out the first time. But wait, it gets better. I bought the boot from Autozone which was a universal fit and guess what, it lasted about 3 weeks before splitting. The worst part of this job is getting the lines for the power steering off the rack unit. The passenger side mount is a little hard to get the bolts out but other than that it's not a hard job at all. Definitely take the sway bar out first and either do your own aligning if you can or get it close and take it to a shop for alignment. By the way, the last boot change I did with the rack still in the car.

I've done a half dozen or so the last year. Its a PITA, especially if it has a power steering cooler.
3.5 labor is about what I charge.
