As promised..ZR-1 vs Stroked L-98 race!
As promised last week, Polo-1 (92 ZR-1) and I (see sig) lined them up this morning to see what would happen. Hear's how it went:
On the first run, we did a 5 mph or so roll-on start. It's difficult to get an even start when you're looking at each other and nodding to signal the start, so I got a pretty good jump on him. I know I lost grip pretty bad when I nailed it and he later told me he did the same. I was probably up on him by about a car when we both got hooked up and may have pulled a little more by the time we hit 95-100. After that, I began pulling away pretty good until about 140 mph where we had to let up. This was done on a pretty good up hill grade.
The second run we again did a 5 mph roll on start, except this time we got a much more even start. I had the edge by maybe a half a car until we again reached about 95-100. Again, I pulled away on the top end through 150 where we cought up to some traffic and had to back off in a hurry.
All in all it was a rush and tons of fun. I must say I'm happy to know that all my hard work has paid off by edging out one if the fastest production Corvettes in history!
Here's to you Polo-1

Cool That's the way I'm going with the '78 - good to here you can get more power out of the 350 than GM or the other crate engine suppliers. Thanks for the "road test" :D

Yes Jeff,
You pulled me. We need to hit Yakima, I would like to see your trap speed in the 1/4. The 383/ 2.7? gears really move out on top end.
Any time you want to go for a run, let me know.
Kevin

Kevin,
I had fun running with you this morning! Certainly no disrespect intended in relaying the outcome to the interested members of the forum. Your car is beautiful, runs like a scalded ape, and I'd trade you straight across any day!
Let me know when you want to make a run to Renegade or just take a spirited run somewhere!

I'd like to see you guys line up at Yakima. I suspect the 5 mph roll really hammered the stick shift ZR1. Nothing harder then getting a stick shift car going from a slight roll. A dead stop run would be a whole new race. Sounds like you've got a wicked L98 in the top end though. Also, I can try to talk the present owner into taking my old '94 to Yakima too. That would be fun to watch. It did 90 to 120 in 4 seconds in the last 1/8 mile of the strip. We should all make a road trip of it.
