Colton had time to run the mile runs?
Wasn't that him we saw doing the drifting course
in Uly car instead? Damn, those tires can smoke!
So how many 360's did he end up doing?
Uly, ya should have been there........

Jeffvette,

At what speeds were the cars at in the pictures?

I'm surprised at the about of front end lift on the cars.

It looks like no one who hit 168 mph or better last year wanted to drop a grand in unnecessary safety equipment to show up and do it again this year. What a surprise.

Apparently Colton was listening to something other than WLT5 ...based on the position of the antenna...LoL

I wish I had been there too! Speed looks to be about the same as last year with my fat *** in there...my speed was 159 (162 indicated) last year.

Glad everyone had fun!

If you look you can see the timing equipment...so it is at the end of the mile...at speeds of ~155-161 MPH.

Were you there this year or last year?
The 2 cars I know of that went 168+ last year
have the safety equipment.
And I love the phrase "unnecessary safety equipment."
Maybe John Force's safety equipment was unnecessary.
Maybe a parachute is unnecessary safety equipment for jumping out
of a plane.

I'm not going to debate what is "unnecessary" safety equipment
because I (or anyone else) probably don't really know what is "necessary."

But:
1) I'd rather be over protected than under protected.
2) The sactioning body for any organized racing event has rules.
Take them or leave them.

PS. It feels really cool flying @ 160+.
You all ought to try it!

Uh oh. Is there a rock i can hide under? Open mouth, insert foot...

I apologize to Jim- I didn't know who zrss was. No personal info listed.
I was just gonna delete my post, but some of what I say I still believe. And it is entertaining.
Jim, at those speeds you don't have the harness bar/straps, etc?
All my wife requires of me is life insurance.

Ted,

I was there last year with my black 94 Z. I ran 173 mph which was the top speed for a ZR-1. I did that without the safety equipment mandated this year and survived just fine, thank you. I don't recall any of the other 168+ drivers in fire suits with gloves and arm restraints. Maybe you can remind me who had them.

I totally agree that nobody really knows what safety equipment is necessary. That's my point. Making a comparison to a parachute for a skydiver is pretty silly, don't you think? That's like suggesting that a steering wheel and brake pedal are unnecessary for a mile shootout. Hopefully you can make that distinction.

If you want to be "over protected" that's your business. Install a roll cage, harness, and extinguisher if you want. Just don't make the rest of us.

Ted,

No problem: obviously everyone sees this differently. I apologize if my prior postings were a bit short. I just find the following to be amazing:

I attend Jeff Flint's get together in Portland each year. Monday is track day at Portland International where 20 cars at a time race around a 2.1 mile track at full speed. I hit 140 mph on the front straight each lap. The only safety equipment required is a Snell 2000 or better helmet and a car that's in good shape.

To go 168 mph on a vacant runway that (as I recall) is several hundred feet wide and has a mile to shut down, and on which there are no other cars running, requires over $1000 in specialized safety equipment.

I just don't get it. But for the mandatory safety equipment, I would have been in Vegas this year.

Finally, I've "top ended" both my Z06 and 415 ZR-1. The Z06 went 188 mph. The ZR-1 has seen the fun side of 200. No bars, no harness, no fireproof suit, just a grin from ear to ear.

hmmmmm Seems like I remember you saying in Portland "you have to do something, with all that money......
a measly $1000 held a big spender like you from going to Vegas....

duh, ok

Looks like those 93-95 cars aren't that slow after all.
