For those 1/4 miling on street tires...
Taking the 90 out to Fontana tomorrow, havent been out in a long time, never been to this track. I cant get the car on street tires (they are new) any better than 2.19, most the time 2.2, 2.3 (on the other two tracks Ive been to).... 60'. Terrible.
Ive left off idle, 1500, anything more is a waste, it just hazes them. Maybe Im not slipping the clutch enough...
What are your best techniques?
I know in cooler weather with a DR this thing has a 12 in it but that wont be happening this time around.

cv,
That's pretty much the story I have. My best 60' is 2.1 with stret tires. My ZR has BFG g-Force on there now. Stubborn me, I think about running how I run on the street. However, next time I think I will try taking off at about 2K from the line and feather the throttle till tires bite. I'm going to try this approach next time I'm at the track hopefully in the next few weeks before it gets too cold.

I wouldn't spend much time slipping the clutch... its not worth the hassle of accelerated wear and the next R & R of the clutch.
I prefer dumping the clutch at the lowest rpm that brings the tires to the hook up point quickly. Then modulate the throttle as best you can to keep the tires turning a little bit faster than you are actually going. Its takes some practice... not to mention overiding the adrenalin factor.

It sounds like the traction out there is pretty poor. My BFG KD's are actually not bad at launch. But my BFG DR's are better.
FYI, the current (Dec.) issue of Corvette Fever has an article by John Armstrong ("Ranger" on here) about techniques for the 1/4mi. Very good, lots of tips and advice. The guy is now at 10.85 with a STOCK C6 ZO6. It's definitely the most thorough article i've ever seen on drag racing stock Corvette's. He may have a hundred more h.p., and 300lbs. less weight, but a lot of the techniques apply to our heavy old C4's. Check it out.

Guess Ill never know at least for awhile. After making the almost 100 mile trek out there I was told they were out of tech cards, that Id have to run around and leave. ...
Totally unorganized.

I'm leaving for the track right now and have my GSD-3's on. I don't expect much with out my DR but out for some fun. I'll update my embarassing times upon my return.

Well to update on the track here goes. It was cold as hec today with temps at 6 degrees celcius which is what mid 20's F? I was running the GSD-3's tires at 35lbs pressure and a full tank of gas for traction. Plus I'm 6'2 255lbs.
best run at 12.44 @ 116.51 MPH with poor traction
another run at 12.55 @ 114 mph severe wheel hop and had to let off
last run of 12.60 @ 116.4 mph would have been my best run but missed 3rd gear otherwise I think I would have easily nailed a 12.3 or maybe a 12.2. best 60ft was a 1.9 on my 12.55 pass. Overall I'm happy. I have 4:10's, ported intake and IH's, headers, exhaust.

Hey Mike, lay off the canadian bacon this winter. You'll gain a tenth in the spring
Seriously, strong times. That's something good to remember when the snow flies.

Trying to Bob but its so dam good! The times are pretty good so It's great to see what our cars are capable of even on street tires.

Track is OK but was not well prepped this weekend.I think I could have done much better but my mistake was I scorched the hec out of my GSD's and they became too slippery so my suggestion would be to dust the tires slightly but don't smoke them. Launching at 2K or less if on street tires depending on once again how well the track is prepped. With Nitto's the car went 12.1 but cam's have been timed since making a huge improvement. Car runs stronger now. Are you running DR's?

I got the car from my step brothers estate as welll as a red esterior black int 90 zr1 . the black dar from what i have read has siamesed ported injector housings and plenum rc injectors a custom spin tec 21/2 in exhaust with xpipe . a z industries reverse air cleaner with a kand n air filter 410 gears hurst shifter and ceramic disc clutch and a corey henderson chip . the dyno sheets that i found in the folder said 426.8 rwhp and 381.2tq. the time slips in the folder show a best of 11.81 @ 119.76 mph with a 2.02 60ft.at famoso there was a set of mt et street radials 315x35 x17 on a seperate set of wheels . i thought i might take the wife to the drag strip tonight . we are in the process of moving from sacramento to mammoth and she doesnt want to fo the halloween thing .I havent gone to the strip in 5 yrs and that was with an automatic 73 sd455 trans am. so launching a manual car could be very interesting . the mt site says to run from 11 to 14 lbs but that could be a little scary though i think i might start around 20lbs and see . what rpms do you leave at with the nittos and what do you shift at ?ill try to post the times if my internet hasnt shut down. hopefully they wont be toooo bad

You know Terry, for step brothers you two sure have the same affinity for spelling, punctuation, and fondness for not capitalizing your i's! That's wild! Are you sure you weren't twins? How's your golf game?
