Check out this link.

My car averaged 150.363 back in 2001 when it was owned by Ed Van Scoy and he was clocked at 180 on a straight-a-way.
The interesting thing on this site is how the new ZO6s are performing just as the ZR1's were a few years back. The 150 MPH group is where they both placed very well.

I don't think he's saying the Z06 and our ZR1s are equal or our ZR1s are better than the Z06s...he just said it's "interesting" (or odd) that they are in the same 150 MPH class/group. As in one would expect they would be in a higher/faster class because he (and everyone else) knows they ARE leaps and bounds ahead of our ZR1s ( I really don't think anyone here would dispute that). So now that you've told us the obvious, can you ponder this situation and offer a reason/opinion as to why? We all know they are capable of much more...is there some kind of rule that requires they get experience at the 150 MPH level before they can go to 160 and so on? Is it because of the safety rules?

The SSCC is very safety concious and they want to be sure you know how to drive safely. Your abilities and healthful appearance will be accessed as much as your car when you decide to run in the Grand Sport class of 130 to 150 and Super Sport class of 160 and beyond. Nothing gives the people that host the event more satisfaction than knowing that everybody has completed the event safely.
My one and only 150 class run in my 91 Z averaged 156. I believe a well tuned, stock motored ZR-1 with the usaul bolt ons could average 170 mph on highway 318 if you never lifted except for the narrows. I am looking forward to the day I get to do it !
The 318 is a true speed junkies paradise !

Details ? Hmmmmm... Lets see, I left Gary's house after the party and was cruising back towards Vegas when the white G6 driven by Dwight flashes by. I asked my friend David, should I pass him back ? David agreed, So... Ok, lets have a little fun... and we reeled in his buck and a quarter speed limit and made our point. It didn't take long for Dwight to pass again so we repeated the view of the G6 in the rearview mirror act once more.
Ok... here comes Dwight, his brother, and Jeff again, this time with the 4 ways on for a little extra visual stimulation perhaps. This time we take 4th to 7K (175ish) and shift to 5th. The thottle was pinned for an eternity and the road was 100% clear for several miles. It seemed the G6 had slowed considerably as we blew past for the 3rd time. The rising cresendo of the LT5s song was at a higher pitch than I have ever heard before in 5th gear with 3.07s in the rear ! The air was cool and we were going downhill at a speed that had me thinking... OMG ! Even with Hella lenses and over the wattage legal limit H4s bulbs I didn't dare take my eyes from the road in case something showed up that I needed to avoid. It did take some time for the adrenaline rush to subside.
Hope those were the details you were reffering to !

Yes, it is the same track that is blessed by the NHP daily when they write money orders for those commiting what is usaully considered victimless offences. If the road were not totally devoid of traffic this experience never would have occurred. So, at the risk of sounding like a scofflaw, we had a friggen blast !

Agreed, from one scofflaw to another ...my own personal experience is that the real danger comes from diverting attention from the task at hand when doing these track "runs", to looking out for revenuers wanting to assess a speed tax in the name of safety.
If I'm doing triple digits in heavy traffic, I deserve to be written up for unsafe driving...but if there's not a fellow motorist within a 1/2 mile or more?
