Question about the LT5 for you ZR1 guys
I own a Ford Focus which of course has a overhead twin cam engine. I've been told that engines with multiple cams vibrate a lot more. Is this true with the LT5 compared to say the standard LT1?

That is bs. OHC motors vibrate no more than any other configuration. More old wives tales. BTW - the LT5 is balanced so well it passes the nickel test! Smoother than any other Corvette motor built before or after.

Good to know, I figured with a car like the ZR1 they'd have it balanced out pretty good. My Focus vibrates bad and makes a lot of noise, not much power there of course

The LT-5 is smooth, and for an engine of it's day to have it's performance, and it's docile every day driveability, is simply amazing...
Here's a link to a nickel test.

If memory serve me correctly... The flywheel, crankshaft, and dampner are balanced within half a gram from the factory. That should make things pretty smooth imho.

That's funny, usually what I hear is how DOHC makes an engine smoother not rougher. I don't think it really has much to do with it, except maybe cams are milder in cars with more valves?
I think either type could be quite smooth, or not so smooth, depending on other factors. An I-4 or V6 is inherently prone to more vibration than a 90-degree V8 is. Balance shafts and such can be used to counteract this. And I'm sure machining, assembly, and other tolerances play a part.

ummm comparing apples to peaches here. the focus isnt a bad car (no i dont have one) but your comparing a 15k car to a car that would be about 80k (inflation adjusted) today.....BIG difference. the focus should be louder and vibrate more.
