Default need auto trans swap tech

First, I'm not going to do this. I do need to know what it takes though in order to see if it would go outside the rules of SCCA B Street Prepared, which I suspect it would.

[short story] Using only parts found on C4s, can you make a slushbox work behind an LT5? I know the dual mass flywheel is specific to LT5, and the ZF input shaft is large. These lead me to these issues:
- is the bell housing bolt pattern LT5 specific?
- pilot bushing: can the small shaft bushing fit in the LT5 crank?
- crank bolt pattern: is it the same as L98/LT1/LT4?
- flywheel/flexplate balance: is the LT5 a different balance weight?
- starter gear, given the unusual mounting is the flywheel ring gear unique?
- trans availability - is the "regular" c4 automatic up to the output of LT5 without modification?
[/short story]

[back story] Right now the ZR-1 and other C4s are segregated from each other. This means you cannot swap parts between them, keeping some useful bits off the ZR-1. I am engaged in trying to combine them so a few useful bits can be used, trying to level the treatment with LT4 (which can use all those bits). There is a concern if combined that making the automatic available to ZR-1 could create a class killer.
[/back story]

I have my doubts the swap could be accomplished without going beyond the *SP rules. This is a current issue as I'm hoping to get this classing done before it's too late.

I think the ZR-1 could make a nice Street Prepared car, which allows some weight reduction, exhaust, tune, springs etc. But I think it really needs the quick ratio steering rack from the early Z51 cars, and to get this I need to get the rules updated. I think they were scared of the ZR-1 back in the day .

Here's where I confess to being an old Ford guy and basically clueless at this level of Bowtie tech.

Thanks in advance,
- Jeff

Pete from Chicago has done the conversion more than once. He may pop up and answer your questions. Or you can track him down easier on the ZR1 forum.

Ah HA. Thanks - that's not a legal mod. Whew.

Here's to bringing the ZR-1 into the BSP contender category!

Thanks again,
- Jeff
