Default Seat Exchange

One of the considerations for me as I shop for the right ZR1 are the seats. I'm "wider" than some and the earlier seats are tighter than 94 & 95. Anyone know if the bolts line up the same for both? How difficult is it to rewire the 94's & 95's to work in the earlier models? Finally, how available are like new 94 & 95 seats?

I have a 91 and a 94. The seat tracks look the same as far as I can tell, without seat removal. You could put any C4 sport seat in there in think.

Thanks. . that was my guess. The switches are different, so there probably need to be some modifications.

Yes the plugs look different, easy fix though.

Seat swaps have been done numerous times before. It's no great shakes. You can also purchase new foam and new seat covers. Expect $800 - $1000 for everything brand new from one of the top shops. I know Mr. Mojo switched his interior over to a later version.

As an aside, this isn't a ZR-1 specific issue. Nearly every interior piece is the same as the base model.

IIRC, from people who have done it before, on the '90-91 you will lose some controls on the seat, as the controls are on the seat itself, and thus there will be no switches for them when you install the '94+ Lear seats.

I believe 94-6 had the seat controls on the console. If you can get that controler, you shouldn't have any problem wiring them in. Now the color is different (black with white letters). Goldcylon has 96 seats in his 91Z.

Yes I do and I love them!!! You will only lose the lower bolster controls every thing works like it should!!!

The only thing you really lose is bolster bezel butt syndrome.

I put in black 96 sport seats in my 91 and used them for a year or so... Never converted the controls though... I switched back to the 91s last year. The 96s have a softer ride, and are much wider. It was a great change considering I was running Bilstein revalved FX3 shocks - "Maraca" race setting. Felt every pebble with the stock seats - not so with the 96 sport seats. Great seats, and look better than the 91s, however I like the firmness of the 91s.

I'm in the process of putting in '94-'96 base seats in my '90 Z. I bought the seats from EBay and put new leather/foam on them from Mid America. BUT, I haven't been able to bolt them up yet because my Z's in the shop.
