How about you post pictures of your LT5 powered Fox body first.

The grey is from Lingenfelter and comes in a spray can. It shoots a nice even spray and the color is dead on to the stock color. I taped off the letters and sprayed Duplicolor engine enamel in Ford red and Gloss black.

The tape off took a while. The most tedious part was taping off all the bolts in the cam covers and plenum. I thought I was doing all that, but it really was worth it.

Thank you, Lingenfelter has the grey color and Duplicolor has the red and black.

What made you choose to use spray paint rather than powder coat? IS what you used going to be more durable than the factory coating?

It looks fantastic!

Wow, how difficult was taping off the lettering, did you prep the old paint before painting?

I didn't feel like removing the plenum or cam covers, so I painted it. From what I can tell, the Lingenfelter grey seems to be more durable than the factory finish. That is what they claim, and it's been painted now for about 6 months, without any change in color or discoloration.

The Duplicolor is supposed to withstand a lot of heat, so we will see as the months go on.

Thanks, overall, I think it came out pretty decent.

It wasn't all that bad to tape off. I ran tape over the top of the letters/numbers, pressing down to show the border of the numeral and cut out them out with an x-acto knife.

As far as prepping, I made sure the surface was clean of any debris or oil and sprayed the paint. There were no issues with lifting or bubbling.

Very nice job. I'd probably get in the middle of that project
go ballistic and kill the neighboor's cat.
I hear patience is a virtue, someone should bottle it.

Well, if the neighbor's cat keeps crapping on your paper, that may not be that bad of an idea

cadillac531,

You have given me some much needed inspiration to clean-up and detail my '94. I'm a new ZR-1 owner. The only thing I had reservations about when I bought mine was a filthy engine and engine bay. I'm working on a '85 and a '78, once I finish them, I hope I can get my LT5 looking as good as yours.

Reading some of the other replies, it sounds like you've given others inspiration also.

Any, after the fact, hints or tips you can share? Anything you would have done differently to make the job easier?
