Default Misadventure from Smog check

I went in today to get the Z smogged. Before that I did a fresh oil change and filled it with fresh Premium gas. Passed the smog check with flying colors
As I'm driving home a couple miles from the smog station, I look down at the dash and see the mileage WTF
It's reading about 20K over what it was when I drove in there. Flipped a U turn and drove back to ask them what happened
They claimed there's no way they could have changed the mileage. I started thinking maybe the smog tech did something wrong. I get in the cockpit and look at the dash and bingo, I know what happened. The smog tech had accidently hit the Eng/Met button and changed from miles to kilometers
Yeah funny. But now Calif will be showing my mileage as higher than it should be because the kilometers were put in the smog report as miles
Smog station says they can redo the smog test at no charge to correct it. I'm going to call DMV first and see if they can make the change. I want that bad reading off the records.
BTW, now I know why carfax is showing a higher mileage smog check from years ago

Good luck, I hope you can get it straightened out.

An emission station did that to me here (NY). They put the wrong mileage down on accident. I went to go sell the car and Carfax said that the OD wasn't the correct mileage. Lost the sale even though it was explained fully to all party's interested on buying the car.

I contacted the DMV and she said there's a form I can fill out and mail in. I'll provide pics of both miles & kilos too. Hopefully they can fix it

You sure you didn't change it when you were resetting the oil light?

Not sure why the tech would be messing with your buttons if he could plainly see the mileage on the DIC?

I know I didn't do it. I never display kilometers. I can only surmise the tech may have been interested and pushed a few buttons

You obviously never lived in a state with a gov't run inspection program? The people they hire are not, um, they're not good...

Actually, I have lived in a state that does, CT, NY, and Florida at one point. I agree they are not the sharpest tools in the shed.
