They looked like a normal 89 coupe but had the LT-5 drive train. There are at least 3 surviving narrow body cars, two at the Heritage Center and 1 in pravite hands. No pictures that I know of yet.

The DR1 was a narrow body LT5 and it had the ZR-1 body panels added later:

1989 Narrow Bodies with LT5s:

1G1YY21JXK5100024
1G1YY21J1K5100025
1G1YY31J8K5100026 <--- DR1
1G1YY21J5K5100027
1G1YY21J7K5100028

1990 Pilot Narrow bodies with LT5s and 1989 VINs

1G1YY21J4K5100052
1G1YY21J6K5100053
1G1YY21J8K5100054
1G1YY21JXK5100055
1G1YY21J1K5100056

There was at least a rumor of one other LT5 convertible so one or more of these VINs may be wrong. The convertible has a 3 instead of a 2 and throws off the check digit.

Good stuff, Eric! I need to get all of the prototype info sometime. Maybe I can purchase a copy of it on disc from you at BG this year?

You are correct. I misremembered! It is now, but based on it's VIN and RPO codes it started life as a narrow body, was converted by ASC and the Advanced Engineering Staff.

I was thinking of the ZR-2. It was a narrow body with modifications to the rear suspension and wheel offset to get the 315s in the wheel wells.

Yes you are right, Given its low EX number I would think it was a 88 pilot car. narrow body. Just posted that to cover my 6 on my miremembering.

Found a narrow bodied LT5 powered convertible in the 10/1988 issue of Vette Vues. The LT5 was at the June 12th 1988 Corvette Challenge Race at Riverside CA:
