Default NITTO 555R Drag Tires - 1st Drive Impressions

I had a set of Good Years on my Z before. I would spin in the first 3 gears. I couldn't even accelerate full throttle from a roll without the rear stepping out.

The Nittos are awesome. Just took the Z for a spin. I can accelerate now full throttle in all my gears and I have great traction. I'd highly recommend them for anyone under 425 RWHP.

The tires measure very close to a GSD 3 however, the tire is narrower and the tire is not "square" like the GoodYears. The sidewall is more rounded. Its noticeable but not to bad. I'd rather have traction anyday and for the price of $360 for 2, they are hard to beat.

Thanks to Marc Haibeck for recommending them.

.....Good to know, thanks. As a long term GSD3 user, it is good to hear of other choices.

I just put GSD 3's on my C5. Awesome tire. The tread pattern is unique though and much different then my F1s which are on the front of my Z currently and like new -the Nittos tread pattern matchs more closely the F1s.

Also, the GSD-3s are alot more coin then the Nittos although I outfitted my C5 for $750 for all 4. I think the 315 size is alot different though and those GSD-s are probably in the $600-$700 range for 2 tires in the 315 size.

Also just to clarify, the tires I was spinning all the time were not GSD-3s. I think they are Gators or GSC and they were older then dirt

Actually, the GSD3's were what I had as well. I spun them fairly easily in the first 2, and in 3rd if I was mashing it at all. Bad enough to be frustrating during normal driving.

Replaced them with the Nitto 555's about 3k miles later. They hook great on the street and I've been stuck in rain a few times. No problems at all (assuming you drive like you have some sense ).

Don't get me wrong, if you hit big valleys of water on a badly crowned road at highway speeds, you'll find yourself saying "God? Remember those last 36 years? Yea. I was just kidding... We cool?" - but not much worse than regular street tires.

Reviews of DR's had me petrified to get caught in the rain. Nope, not bad at all.

And for the price? C'mon, can't be beat! I do wish they weren't as rounded but like the OP said, not too bad looks-wise. I still have my GSD3's on the front.

Oh, and they wear great. I had the Nitto's on during my trip from Cali to Chicago. Didn't cause any massive wear as you'd expect.

I'm over 430RWHP and I give the Nitto's a definite

Actually Y is the best tire to 186 MPH. Z just means faster then 149 but does not say specify to what speed.

The Nitto 555R are indeed a V rating which is 149 MPH which is fine with me.

I am alittle nervous about going to jail and having Bubba give it to me up the *** so I try not to do 180 MPH.

These tires will keep me honest

The NT01 Nitto is a Z but you don't really know how much faster you can go then 149.
