NCRS Results - My 95 ZR-1
I finally got my results from the Michigan NCRS Chapter meet about 2 weeks ago where I had my 95 ZR-1 judged.
The car managed to receive a "Top Flight" award - not that I didn't expect it given the roughly 4800 miles on the car.
The car scored 99.4% or 4477 points out of 4500. So what points did I lose?
Operations - No points deducted (in fact - 3 bonus points for bringing a fire extinguisher)
Interior - 4 point deducted. 2 points - I need to have 2 sets of keys and they both had to have the knockouts (one was missing),
and the other 2 points was for dust in the door jams (I kid you not!).
Exterior - No points deducted
Mechanical - 10 points deducted for dealer replacement battery - 50% originality lost
Chassis - 12 points deducted - 6 for Bosch oil filter, 3 for "wrong" shock tag (more on this later - it deserves a separate thread),
1 for a deteriorating "AIR Pump Filter", and 2 for cleanliness (oil on master cylinder and grease on rear shock).
An added bonus was meeting Gary Cline who was having HIS 95 ZR-1 judged.
Gary was an engineer at Mercury Marine and was heavily involved in both the development and production of the LT5.
Lots of stories from Gary, including a good explanation of what happened when they went from Birmal heads to Dunn heads and why they would develop the few extra HP.
I'll post this at the "other site as well."
Here's a picture of my Z being judged:

There were other Corvettes as well:

Essentially ...yes, but there were reasons I decided to enter the car even knowing beforehand that it wouldn't lose many points.
Consider:
1. Few NCRS people get a chance to crawl through our cars.
2. I wanted people to see that the LT5 can be just as visually exciting as any C2 solid lifter big blocks.
3. I believe that NCRS involvement can help lead to a resurgence of excitement for the C4 generation as a whole - perhaps even spur creation of parts businesses to maintain a supply of parts to keep these cars on the road. A comfortable supply of parts will lead to higher values for the ZR-1 (and ultimately more surviving examples) as people will not be afraid of purchasing the cars.
Then again, maybe that's not what you wanted out of your post. Do I detect a subtly sarcastic passive aggressiveness about your comment?

Hmmm
Color me confused... Understand I am *Not* an NCRS type guy, but know plenty who are, and have been to many regional events over the years. One thing I *always* remembered hearing the judges say is, "We encourage people to drive their cars to be judged."
With that in mind, I'm scratching my head as to why on earth you would have lost 2 points for dust in the door jams?!?! Or oil on the master cylinder/grease on the shock? Has the NCRS changed their judging parameters, now making it virtually impossible to use the cars as intended (i.e. drive them)

Hmmm, dust on the door jambs seems stretching it a little. What did Gary score? Also, seems crummy to deduct points for the replacement battery but guess that's the nature of the beast. I mean really, an original batter from one of these cars will only hold a charge for so long?
I'm sure there are guys that find ways around that somehow.
