Thank you for the info, Shawn. One wire to the sensor probably means it is fine... plus the gauge is working as it should so I think I will leave that one alone.
As for the charging, my CD player is able to display battery voltage and the highest I have seen is 12.6V. While at idle it fluctuates between 10.9 and 11.5. I know there is about a 0.3V drop through the ignition switch, but even considering that these numbers are way too low. I have confirmed all readings with a voltmeter on the alternator and battery.
Thankfully, I do not need the car for the next couple of weeks and my Electronic service manual supplement arrived in the mail yesterday. I will go through the procedure to check the alternator as soon as I have time.
Thank you for the help!

Ah, OK then, it does sound like your alternator is a bit weak. Take it out and have it load tested, you don't want to be stranded anywhere!

FWIW, at idle, my battery voltage drops to the 12.5V range (as displayed on my Escort 8500 RADAR detector). Rev it up to 1000 RPM and it jumps to 14V. Our engines are under driven a bit to save the accessories.
Also, my sensor only has one wire going to it:
I'm thinking you're chasing phantoms.
