How to tell ZR1 prototype
I have always wondered if my Uncle is full of it or not. He told me years ago that the 89 Corvette he has is a prototype. What are the differences that would be easy to see? I do remember that the motor was black and said Mercruiser or Mercury on top of it. Other than that I do not remember any other differences, it was not badged any differently. I do know that he was a big wig for a major phone company and purchased all the fleet vehicles through 1 particular Chevy dealer. I guess he could be telling the truth. What would a car like this be worth?
Thanks for helping with my curiosity!

I didn't think any were left intact - to later be placed in the publics hands though.

Check the vin against this listing and you shoud figure it out. We need to know the vin to make a correct determination. In 1989 there were Pilot cars, prototypes ans narrow body mules with LT 5s.

Thanks for the info, I will see if I can call my cousin to get the VIN. He would not have gotten it through the Dealer as a "public sale" it would have been more of a "keep buying your fleet vehicles here" gesture.
Thanks Again,
John

The VIN does not support the 89 ZR-1 option.
Tell you what...... take a photo of the engine & we can get to the bottom of ALL possibilities real quick.

Even most cell phones can snap off a pic.

As I told you all in my 1st post its not my car, its my Aunt & Uncles. I just got the VIN today and should have a picture of the engine tomorrow. I am in Maryland and the car is in Nevada so that would be a very long zoom on my cell phone.
Thanks,
John

Its even easier tp start a bogus thread and get people worked up.There is no mistaking an LT5 for any other motor. As fas as I know Mercury or Mercruiser was never attached to any ZR-1,anywhere.Just how long are you guys going to drag this out?
