Good deal?
EDIT: I bought the car. See the bottom of Page 2 of this thread for pictures.
I recently heard about a 1990 Z for sale. The seller is a relative of a co-worker. It's red with 13,500 miles. The seller wants $15,000-- I don't know how negotiable he is and I don't know much else about it, except supposedly it has been babied.
Is this an average deal, good deal, great deal? I'm probably not particularly interested but I don't know the current market for these cars. Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'll try to find out more about it. Evidently it's been for sale for a while so I doubt the guy is actively advertising it. However, my co-workers says he "really wants to get rid of it". If I could sell my Porsche quickly I'd be interested, if not I'll post the contact information here.

You better pick that up RIGHT NOW. He talks to too many people the price will go up, if he advertises it the car will be gone yesterday.
Dont listen to BS about this color is best, that ones not good, etc. Its a ZR1 thats all that matters. Dont see em too often

thats a really good point. there is no better color its your car get what color you want. its going to be a unique car no matter what color it is. if you look on other forums its funny because there are legitimate fights over which color is better..me dont have that because it all comes down to one thing that set us apart for other corvettes and cars...the glorious LT5 plus no better feeling than switching it to full power throught that beloved key and blowing some hot shot with a 14 year old girlfriend in a honda thinks he can beat you with a cannon as a muffler and 3000hp due to stickers to parts he probably doesnt have

UPDATE - What would you do?
Since I started this thread I got busy doing other things. However, the seller called me back several weeks ago to ask if I was still interested. I had him send more information. It's number 939. Red/saddle. He sent a few pictures via snail mail, and the car looks excellent from what I can tell. 13,500 miles. He reduced his price and I agreed to buy the car for $13,500 contingent on an inspection in person by me. It's a divorce sale, the ex gets the money which explains the price.
I have not yet inspected the car or concluded the purchase. I ran a Carfax this morning, and it came back as checking out fine except for an odometer discrepancy. The first record carfax shows is a Texas inspection in April 2003 showing mileage of 103,505. The next is another Texas inspection in October 2003 showing mileage of 11,548. That lower number is what set off the red flag. There are eight records total with the mileage slowly increasing from the 11,548. It's been driven about 1,000 miles in the last ten years.
I know there are LOTS of mistakes in Carfax, so I figured the 103,505 was probably just an error; it probably should have been 10,305 or 10,505. However, I was a little worried because there were NO records before 2003... what happened to the car for the first 13 years of its life!?
Now another issue with the Carfax: When it first came into New Mexico from Texas in 2005, it was issued a title indicating "not actual mileage". I was very worried by the Carfax, then I called the seller.
There are no records before 2003 because the car was originally exported to Mexico. He said the guy he got it from (a friend/business partner) bought it in Mexico and imported in back into the US. The seller said he bought it from that previous owner in Texas and brought it into New Mexico. He had an assistant register it, and the DMV clerk didn't believe the mileage and it was from out of state, so they issued the title with the not actual mileage notation. This is NOT a branded title like salvage or rebuilt, it's just a notation that the indicated mileage may not be accurate. I think there's a good chance that would come off when I retitled the car.
The car comes with NO maintenance records other than the seller replaced the AC compressor a couple years ago. Also no old registrations or anything else that would show history or mileage.
I would keep the car as an occasional driver/show car. Considering that, what does everyone think? Buy it for $13,500 if it looks good, or are there too many questions about the mileage raised by the Carfax so walk away?

Melting Slicks
BUY IT!
(As long as it is a true Vin "J" car.)
IF it is that low mileage, which sounds plausible, even with lot's of fixes it's well priced.
Most would pay more than that for a 100,000 mile version.
I would not worry at this point about the odometer situation on Carfax.
These cars are now old enough for body off resto's.
When that is done, mileage seldom matters, as does true mileage.
Divorce makes me believe you ARE getting a deal. She just wants $$$$$.
Pictures?
Good Luck!

That mileage discrepancy could have been at fat fingered emissions entry. The not actual mileage issue from New Mexico is not a worry as well as a lot of states for cars of a certain age that is the automatic filled response. They did this (MVD) to protect themselves as the 2nd 3rd whatever owner of the car probably can’t actually verify the actual mileage. Go look at the car you should be able to tell if it’s been beat on or cherished. Even if it is a 103K ZR-1 in great condition 13.5K is still a good price for the "right" car. GC

Sounds like a steal of a deal. I'm sure your inspection of the car will quickly confirm or rule out the very low-mileage being represented.
I'd be on a plane chop-chop for a deal like that if I was a buyer.
Best of Luck!

all you need to do is look at the general condition of the car to know if it has an extra 100k miles on it. just look at the wear on the corner of the brake pedal- it should be very slight with only 13k on it.
Even my carfax has one booboo on it- I also have a carfax from 2005 that does not- they are sloppy and usually incomplete.

Carfax is not always accurate. Last time I had mine smogged, the tech pushed the wrong button and changed the miles to kilometers and that's the reading that went into the smog report showing much higher than the actual miles

It is possible to get Carfax to correct it, but will not be easy
Trying to sell it later will be difficult unless you get it corrected
But the price is good if the low miles are correct
Lots of fun, forget about resale, beat on it

My car had a fat fingered carfax error...fairly easily explained away by paper trail, but still I bought it anyway!
Your gonna be stoked about how much car you are getting for that little of coin!!!!
Amazing!
